Development of Deep Understanding 
That can be transferred to other games
Content is Focused on Tactical 
Problems—Then Technique!
Tactical Problems 
• Placement 
• Consistency 
• Positioning 
• 4 R’s: Read, React, Respond, Recover (Hopper, 2003)
Questioning as Teaching 
• What do you? (TACTICAL AWARENESS) 
• How do you? (SKILL & MOVEMENT) 
• When is the best time to? (TIME) 
• Where is / can? (SPACE) 
• Which choice? (RISK/SAFETY)
The Keep Up Game (see Hopper, 2003) 
• Play 1 x 1 in one badminton service box 
• Ball has to stay in the air 
• Ball has to be tossed above head height per 
possession 
• If ball lands on floor in quadrant or out of 
quadrant = point is over and awarded to 
respective player
