• Understanding readiness is a key element of

• Two main factors determine readiness:

5. ABILITY
• Ability refers to the
Knowledge
experience
skill
• More specifically, it includes knowledge, or the
demonstrated understanding of a specific task; skill, or the
demonstrated proficiency at a task; and experience, or the
demonstrated ability the worker has gained from
performing a task.

6. WILLINGNESS
• The degree to which a worker shows
confidence, commitment, and motivation to
accomplish an assigned activity defines
their willingness.

• The combinations of ability and willingness
that worker brings to the assigned activity
are called readiness levels.

10. CATEGORIES OF READINESS LEVELS
• The four readiness level generally fall under
the following categories:
Low readiness
Moderate readiness
High readiness

11. LOW READINESS
• Readiness level 1 (R1): Unwilling and unable:
It is described as unable, unwilling or insecure. Followers
who are new or who have been given new tasks may lack
the knowledge, experience or skill to complete the task.
The may also be unwilling to do the task because they lack
confidence or desire.

12. MODERATE READINESS
• Readiness level 2 (R2): Unable but willing:
R2 followers are unable but confident or willing. The
follower may not know how to do an assigned task but may
have the desire to do the task or have confidence in his or
her ability to learn.

• Readiness level 3 (R3): Able but unwilling:
R3 describes the follower as able, but insecure or
unwilling. The follower learns new tasks but becomes
apprehensive when he or she begins a given task on his or
her own.

14. HIGH READINESS
• Readiness level 4 (R4): Able and willing:
Finally, R4 describes the follower as able willing and
confident. The follower is experienced at doing the specific
tasks and confident in his or her ability.
