INTRODUCTION
About a decade ago there were only one or two
devices that were connected to the internet but
today there is work computer ,personal computer,
tablet, Smartphone's, video game console , media
player, smart TV , smart refrigerator.
WHAT IS INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT) ?
IoT is an evolution of mobile, home and
embedded applications that are being connected
to the internet integrating greater computing
capabilities and using data analytics to extract
meaningful information.
HOW WILL IOT WORK?
Internet of things (IoT) are driven by a combination
of :-
sensors & actuators
• temperature
• acceleration
• proximity
• sound
connectivity
• 3G
• Wi-Fi
• NFC
PREDICTIONS AND STATISTICS
 26 billions online units
By 2020 IoT will enable 26 billion devices to get online.
 To create an IoT industry in India of $15 billion by 2020
It has been assumed that India would have a share of 5-6% of global IoT
industry.
 $309 billion supplier contribution
IoT suppliers revenue contribution is estimated to be worth of $309 billion.
 $1 processors
The component cost will go down drastically and processors will be sold for
less than $1.
 leading industry verticals
Manufacturing (15%), healthcare (15%) and insurance (11%).
HOW BUSINESS CAN BENEFIT
• Inventory Management
• Fleet Management
• Real-time promotions
• NEXTGen Vending Machines
• Maintenance and Warranty
THE INTERNET OF THINGS IN ENERGY
THE INTERNET OF THINGS IN RETAIL
USES AND APPLICATIONS:-
 kitchen & home appliances
 Health and fitness products
 Safety and security Monitoring Devices
 Lighting and Heating Products
 Intelligent Traffic Management Systems
 Industrial Uses
 Waste Management Systems
CURRENT APPLICATIONS:-
Sparked -A Dutch start -up
 Dutch startup is using wireless
sensors on cattle.
 Alerts the farmer when one of the
cattle is sick or pregnant.
 The amount of data transmitted by
each cow is 200MB per year.
Corventis-Cardiac Monitors
Corventis helps physicians around the world better diagnose
cardiac problems, such as atrial fibrillation. With its unique
patient-friendly design, it provides continuous monitoring of
symptomatic and asymptomatic rhythm abnormalities, so
physicians can detect problems in a timely way.
BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR
Slip on the cuff and turn on the wireless blood
pressure monitor and the health mate app will
automatically launch.
SMART TOOTH BRUSH
The beam brush is a connected toothbrush that
engages users with their daily hygiene routine.
THE HAPIFORK
The HAPIfork is an
electronic fork that
helps monitor and track
eating habits .It also
alerts with the help of
indicator lights and
gentle vibrations when
eating too fast.
SMART GARBAGE
CANS
Bigbelly alerts
when it needs to be
emptied ,so smarter
collection decisions
can be made.
DISADVANTAGES OF IOT
 Over-reliance on technology
 Breach of privacy
 Loss of jobs
CASE STUDY I-
Videocon Launches Range of Wi-Fi Enabled Ac’s
Videocon Industries Limited is a large diversified Indian company
headquartered in Mumbai. The new range consists of four split AC
models and all of them are 5 star BEE rated. The VSA35.WW1 and the
VSA55.RW1 are 1.0-tonne ACs ,the VSA55.WW1 and the
VSA65.RW1 have a capacity of 1.5 tonnes each
FEATURES:
 ACs can be controlled using an Android app available for
download from the Google Play store. multiple ACs can be
controlled using the Android app.
 Inside the AC is a Precision Energy Meter which helps keep a
tab on the usage and energy thereby reducing electricity bills
in the long run.
 Using the Away Mode, which tracks the Smartphone's current
GPS location, one can configure the AC to switch off/ on
automatically. For example, If a person is returning home
from office and is around 5kms away, he can configure the
AC to automatically switch on using the Away Mode so that
the room is pre-cooled before he reaches home.
 The ACs also has an Hourly Weather Feed feature that can
track the ambient temperature and set the AC temperature
accordingly.
 Rate of Freon gas level will be notified in the smartphone.
 Smoke detectors will detect smoke and will notify
 In the 1.5 ton version there is an optional inbuilt camera
which will act as a surveillance camera and can be
operated with the smartphone.
 Interestingly, all these features can be accessed from
anywhere as long as the smartphone is connected to a Wi-
Fi or cellular network (2G/ 3G/ 4G).
CASE STUDY II
Polibol, as a manufacturing company
was facing these problems:-
 Controlling the air temperature near
machinery on the factory floor
 Controlling the humidity
 Continuous measurement of
environmental variables
 To reduce costs
 Ensure quality
 Monitor working conditions in the
factory
Polibol: Smart Factory solution with Waspmote and Microsoft Azure,
sensor technology and Cloud access
SOLUTION
Temperature sensors Humidity sensors
Light sensors Noise sensors
MESHLIUM
MICROSOFT AZURE
CONCLUSION
The insight derived from data
collected from new Internet-
connected devices can be used to
develop new services, enhance
productivity and efficiency,
improve real-time
decision making, solve critical
problems, and create new and
innovative experiences.
However, as more devices
connect, companies face
increased fragmentation,
interoperability, and security
challenges.
THANK
YOU
