1. Upper Division Courses: Course Analysis
Much of my lower division courses have helped to prepare me for the upper division courses,
much of the material in my upper division courses are based upon these lower division courses.
Throughout my college career I have met and made many friends not just from the campus that I
attend, but from other larger institutions as well, such as Sac State and UC Davis. Upon
communicating with them I have gotten a lot of insight as to what is expected of a student at these
different universities, such as what has helped them become a successful student, the barriers they
have faced, and as well as the do's and the don't s. The community college that I attend has blessed
me with a great experience and amazing professors who have so much experience and

Classification and Division
The video game industry is a multibillion dollar a year industry, so it isn't hard to understand why
they go through great strides to protect their image. They provide entertainment to all ages, genders,
nationalities, and ethnicities. Contrary to the opinions of the industries opponents, video games are
not destroying our youth, they challenge, educate, and provide an escape from an oppressive
world. There are four main types of video games; RPG or role–playing game, RTS or real–time
strategy, FPS or first person shooter, and sports titles. Of these the FPS is probably the most
popular, allowing people to get together with their friends, or go...show more content...
They must learn economics, politics, diplomacy, construction, military tactics, naval power, and
siege tactics in order to survive for more than an hour of play. Rome: Total War has two different
screens that a player must learn to master, the campaign map, where armies, navies, and diplomats
are moved, and where cities are managed. Then there is the battle screen which changes every
time a player attacks or defends a different location. It is on this screen that the game is truly won
or lost. Gamers must fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of not only their units, but the
units of their enemy. This is but one challenge for gamers, they must also learn how to confront
elephants, chariots, siege weapons, and the naked fanatics of the Gauls. The next type of game is
sports titles, which are probably the most popular for a group of people, rather than the individual
gamer. Sports titles cover everything from football and baseball to golf and auto racing. These
games are equally enjoyed by both players who are or were jocks, and for those who wish they
were. A person learns the mechanics and intricacies, giving them a greater appreciation for the game
overall. Sometimes the video game can create a fan of a sport where none existed before. It is
obvious that video games are not all about sex, drugs and violence. While there are certain titles that
are questionable, but most games are quite harmless. With school becoming less

3. Ideological Division Essay
Ideology is the belief of people's ideas. Everyone has different opinions about ideas and it can
often lead up to problems, debates, and etc. There is nothing wrong with ideology because it is
the opinion of one and there is no right and wrong in opinions. However, I do believe that it can
cause issues with the actions of others. In my opinion, ideological division is a problem and in a
way it is to a major extent.
Since ideological division does exist in the United States, we live in environments that separates us
from others with different beliefs. As stated in document one, "We've built a country where we can
all choose the neighborhood and church and news show– most compatible with our lifestyle and
beliefs." This proves that most of the...show more content...
In document seven, it explained how citizens were given two options, these two ideas belonged to
either a democratic plan or a republican plan. The people who voted for the ideas were told which
ideas belonged to each party. Democrats voted for the idea that was under the democratic party.
Even when it was switched and the other option now "belonged" to the democratic party, democrats
ended up choosing the new option only because it was under the party they wanted to go for. The
same goes for the republican party. This document represents that citizens are not choosing based on
the individual ideas, but they are choosing by what belongs to their preferred party.
In conclusion, ideological division is a problem in the United States. Everyone has their own
opinions and that is to be accepted, but people have trouble accepting others opinions and their way
of thinking. Therefore, most citizens of the United States live with others with the same belief. They
segregate themselves from others and do things based on what their party believes in. They will
mainly agree with whatever idea their party has in mind and it is likely that they are not going to

4. Depiction Of Struggle And Division
Depiction of Struggle and Division in Text Throughout this class, the main goal was to analyze these
texts as though we were scholars, and to make connections and identify common themes amongst
them. By doing so, we were supposed to be able to more deeply understand each text and the
argument each was making. Throughout the readings, the most prominent themes were that of
struggle and division, though it is certainly more prevalent and obvious in certain texts than others.
Though all the texts depict division and struggle, they focus on different societal divisions This
depiction of struggle first became clear during the reading of Plato 's Republic in book I, where
Thrasymachus said of justice, "Justice is nothing more than what is advantageous for the stronger"
(Plato 15). When examined further, Thrasymachus ' answer came to mean that what benefits the
stronger, more powerful class of people is what he calls justice. Thrasymachus ' answer posed a
struggle between those with more power and influence and those who held less powerful positions in
their respective City–states. While Socrates overturned Thrasymachus ' definition of justice, the
discussion turned to government and justice in Book VIII, when Socrates spoke of the eventual
decay of government into Tyranny. In describing Timocracy, a form of government in which
property ownership is required for participation in government and in which honor is the ruling
principle and the man with which it corresponds, Socrates

"The popular notion of what it's like to teach in urban America is dominated by two extremes"
(Michie, 1999, p. xxi). Gregory Michie succeeds admirably in rendering his teaching experiences in
the complicated reality between two extremes in his book Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of
a Teacher and His Students. Many people hear about the horror stories, portrayed by the media
mainly, that schools in urban America are nothing short of chaos; uneducated and uninterested kids.
Then there are other stories that are rarely heard of, about the one teacher who makes the difference
in such a school. Michie's account in his book skillfully avoids the simplification either extreme

something wasn't done, this would affect the way Reggie grew up and viewed life.
It is this kind of dedication that inspires me to keep going to classes and writing papers. I want to
help students to see our world in a different light. Joel Spring stated in his book, American Education
, "the school will continue to be used in efforts to solve social, political, and economic problems"
(Spring, 2004). The purpose of public schooling is to prepare today's children for tomorrow's
problems. It is important not only to teachers and students, but also to the community as a whole. If
the communities where these children are being raised see the teachers that teach their kids really
do care, the implications are endless. Things could change, especially so for urban American
communities. I know these are high hopes, but again, if I don't set them, how will I even begin to
see them through. Being a teacher means I must strive to connect with my students. I have to see
beyond my basic responsibilities as a teacher and bring the students to the fore–front of my life. It is

The purpose of this lesson is to introduce the students to the concept of division. This will be
somewhat of a review for the students who have had practice with division in past grade levels. It
has been a long time since the students have had any practice with division, so this lesson will serve
an introduction to the meaning of division, division vocabulary, as well as its relationship to
multiplication. Students will be introduced to fact families as a way to show the connection between
multiplication and division. The students will be able to see the relationship between a concept they
have had a lot of practice with (multiplication), to a concept that might be new to them (division).

11. Marxist Theory Of Class Division In Society
When viewed from a capitalistic perspective, there are class divisions in the current world based
on differences between people who control factors of production (Bourgeois) and those who
provide labor (proletariats). These classes have evolved from the Marxist theory of the history of
class struggles. For a person to understand the class divisions and conflicts, the paper provides a
detailed explanation of the theory. The paper also provides proof that the class division still exists in
the current society. The paper also discusses criticisms and counters criticisms about the view that
there are class divisions in the current workplaces and society.

They do not own or control any means of production. Instead, they provide labor to the bourgeois
(Gilbert, 2014). As the bourgeois own the means of production, they acquire power in society. They
form the ruling class in the society. They are, therefore, able to control the proletariat. They use their
wealth and power to protect their properties. The bourgeois class being in control of the factors of
production mercilessly exploit the proletariat in the process of creating wealth for
themselves.According to Marx, capitalism brings about its own destruction. It is because the class
divide ultimately leads to a system of social revolution. As the bourgeois wealth depends on the
labor of the proletariat class, the situation places power on the proletariats (Allan, 2005). The
proletariats have also increased in number as they are joined by the petty bourgeois. Due to the
exploitation by the bourgeois, the proletariats decide to come together in their large numbers and
form unions where they fight against the dominance of the bourgeois. During the revolution, the
capitalist state fades away and is replaced by a classless state that believes in the idea of categorizing

Tom Clancy's The Division has already set records for being Ubisoft's fastest selling new IP and
the highest selling game of the year so far, but of course hype and high sales don't necessarily
translate to quality. So, how does The Division stack up against its contemporaries? Right off the
bat the first thing you need to know about The Division is that it's not your usual first person
shooter; instead, similar to Destiny, The Division is structured more like an MMORPG with FPS
elements. This means that, depending on the level of your current equipment, a baseball bat

brief period of severe stuttering and frame dropping and an instance where I became stuck in the

comes to the dialogue. The NPCs you see wandering around the city spout the same few lines and
your enemies will incessantly repeat the same three or four war cries. The gunfire and explosions

one of Nolan's younger brother's short story; Memento Mori. Despite not widely known, the movie

The film has one overall branching storyline but is told through two different time lines. The film
begins at the end of the story and is told backwards, colored, in fifteen minute intervals. Each
scene going backwards is told in these specific intervals to juxtapose Leonard's condition, where
the overall storyline is confusing and doesn't make a lot of sense, similar to how Leonard feels
constantly. And his general length of memory is also about fifteen minute parallel to the lengths of
scenes in the movie. While most of the plot is told backwards and new information is revealed in
these intervals, the story's reverse order sequence is broken off and alternated by no color, black and
white scenes. These scenes are shown interchanged with the main backwards plot and alternate every
scene. The colorless parts are depicted in standard chronological order to give the story better overall
rhythm. As the main story is nonlinear, the plot starts to become more and more difficult to
understand, so the director uses related black and white scenes that connect with the colored story
line. This structure is used to keep the flow consistent. In written material sentences are usually
structured so that old previously established information is shown at the beginning of the sentence
and new, untold information is organized toward the end. Without these black and white interludes,

14. This essay will compare the effectiveness of social division using Karl Marx's theory of class
division and the feminist theory of patriarchy. I will also link this to ethnicity in black feminism and
evaluate how relevant these theories are to society today.
Social division is the discrimination of a group of people in society based on social class, gender or
ethnicity. This can then cause disruption within society. The two main theories of social division are
Karl Marx's theory of class division and the feminist theory of patriarchy.
Karl Marx developed his theory on class division by suggesting that all societies have two major
classes, a ruling class and a subject class. The ruling class owned a means of production such as
land or capital, whereas the subject class did not. Marx argued that this leads to the ruling class
exploiting the subject class. The ruling class use a superstructure of the legal and political
systems to justify its position and prevent protests by the subject class. In capitalist societies the
main classes are the bourgeoisie (capitalist) and the proletariat (working class). In these societies
the bourgeoisie exploits the working class through wage labour. The capitalists pay wages to the
workers, but make a profit because they pay the workers less than the value of what they produce.
Capitalism is the newest type of class society but it will also be the last. Eventually it will be
replaced by a communist society in which the means of production

Marx's View of the Division of Labor
The Division of Labor is a subject which has fascinated social scientists for millennia. Before the
advent of modern times, philosophers and theologians concerned themselves with the implications of
the idea. Plato saw as the ultimate form of society a community in which social functions would be
rigidly separated and maintained; society would be divided into definite functional groups: warriors,
artisans, unskilled laborers, rulers. St. Paul, in his first letter to the church at Corinth, went so far as
to describe the universal Church in terms of a body: there are hands, feet, eyes, and all are under the
head, Christ. Anyone who intends to deal seriously with the study of society must grapple with

In this way, the very products of a man's hands came to be used as a means of enslaving him to
another. This theme, which Marx announced as early as 1844, is basic to all of Marx's later
economic writings.
Under this system of alienated labor, Marx argued, man's very life forces are stolen from him. The
source of man's immediate difficulty is, in this view, the division of labor. The division of labor
was, for Marx, the very essence of all that is wrong with the world. It is contrary to man's real
essence. The division of labor pits man against his fellow man; it creates class differences; it destroys
the unity of the human race. Marx had an almost theological concern with the unity of mankind, and
his hostility to the division of labor was therefore total (even totalitarian).
Class Warfare
Marx's analysis of the division of labor is remarkably similar to Rousseau's4. Both argued that the
desire for private property led to the division of labor, and this in turn gave rise to the existence of
separate social classes based on economic differences. The Marxist analysis of politics relies
completely upon the validity of this assumption, Without economic classes, there would be no need
for a State, since a State is, by definition, nothing more than an instrument of social control used by
the members of one class to suppress the members of another.5 Thus, when the proletarian revolution
comes, the proletarian class must use the State to destroy the remnants

King Lear: Division of the Country, Destruction of the Family
As Shakespeare's King Lear opens, the political conditions in Britain are precarious. Lear is an
aging king, 'four score and upward', with three daughters and no male heir. Sooner or later power
must be transferred. Through no man's fault, persons of extremely evil propensity were placed very
close to power. This situation is an outer expression of the conditions of the social consciousness of

by his strength. There is no one of equal power to replace him. The solution which naturally suggests
itself is a division into three parts, each to be ruled by a daughter and her...show more content...
But as he is placed in life, Lear's emotions are too much dominated by selfishness, vanity and
egoism to express real love or affection.
As the country has come to a transition point, so has Lear. In his old age, he feels compelled to put
aside the mantle of authority and spend his last days in the comfort and warmth of his youngest
daughter Cordelia's affection. There is in Lear an inner urge to renounce the satisfactions of power
with which he is saturated and grow into the satisfactions of the heart. But there is also much in him
which is so accustomed to the privileges and pleasures of absolute power that to give them up would
itself seem like death. What takes place is a working out of the forces within his being, compelling
and resisting a shift in consciousness from the vital to the emotional center.
Lear announces a contest in which the kingdom is to be divided among his three daughters and their
husbands according to each one's profession of love and devotion to him. Even the manner in which
he expresses his intention forebodes a different outcome.
Meantime we shall express our darker purpose.
