My College Experience Essay examples
My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and
explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior
year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard
people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully
understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at
Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and
obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a
sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content...
I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the
teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not
the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an
assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These
were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the
most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time
had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately
began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I
learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize
myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead
of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my
back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced
them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

Growing up with scientist parents, I followed them around the world as they pursued their
education and careers in scientific research. I was born in Shanghai, moved to Japan at the age of
two and settled down in Seattle when I was seven. Having experienced these three different
countries, I have seen the differences in ideologies and culture. These different perspectives have
been all been crucial in my development of my own identity. I believe that these experiences in my
early childhood have really enriched my passion and interests.
At the same time, moving around constantly provided many challenges. It was difficult learning new
cultures and languages while leaving and making friends. These obstacles were not solved overnight

The wide range of research experiences and the motivating classes at Caltech cemented my interests
in the field of science and research. Having TA–ed an introductory lab class that introduces some
current research on campus, I understood the importance of communication and translation of
research. Furthermore, my experiences as an upper class counselor (an undergraduate resident
associate) and health advocate have shown that I also value the personal interaction and mentorship
of students around me. These experiences have shown me that medicine is the perfect platform for
me to be involved with science and interact with people on a daily

Moving my whole life to the United States was a special challenge to me. I had to be familiar with
life style, environment, education system, culture, and tradition which are different from my country
Iraq. Before I moved to the United States, I spent three years in a university in Iraq; however, these
years in the university did not help me to get to the college level in the United States. It was like I
needed to start from zero. I did not give up because I have a goal to be a doctor. Therefore, I took
ESOL classes, passed Texas Admission Test, and now I am in my Junior year.

I learned a lot of things in my classes that will help me in my future carrier, especially in science
classes, such as Biology, Genetics, and Chemistry. For example, during Genetics lab, I learned
how to amplify and extend DNA using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) product, how to use gel
electrophoresis to see the migration of DNA particles in the gel, and analysis of unknown drug
compound using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) technique during Chemistry lab. I am trying to
keep the class load and work load same each semester. I have been named three times in the dean
list. I did a volunteer with Harris Health System. During my volunteer, I learned how to help the
patient by guiding them to their appointment room and prepare a wheelchair for patient who cannot
walk. Also, I am volunteering with Health Professional Organization. Their volunteer events are
related with the medical field, such as volunteer events with Houston Health Foundation, and project
C.U.R.E. In addition, I am a member of Scholars Academy which offer scholarship, internship,
research experience, and volunteer to their students. Last semester, I got a scholarship form
Scholars Academy for my academic excellence. For community service, I am participating in
church events that specials to help children who suffer from cancer. I applied for a research
program, and I'm going to start this research in

Fortunately, my diligent work ethic in high school has granted me admission into the college of
my dreams, tuition free. Although I am relieved when I consider the lessened burden of college
expenses, I still realize that I will face an overwhelming bill for room and board and many other
college costs. I plan to work part–time this summer in order to finance part of my education on my
own. I hope to cover as many fees as possible in order to minimize the burden that will fall on my
parents.
My goal is to begin studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in college this fall.

Walking down memory lane, in the days of high school in Lusaka, Zambia. My primary goal was
to get good grades, so I could get admission in an American college. I remember having imaginary
competitors in my class who were never aware that we were in competition. I made sure no one
would beat my grades, I recall, one of my tough competitor by the name of George Kamfwa,
Kamfwa beat me in mathematics scores. I was bothered, I felt defeated, it was at that time that I
upgraded my game by studying more and using new methods and no one else beat me until the final
exams.
Two years later, I was admitted in an Americancollege and my dreams of studying in the united

"We are all here for some special reason. Stop being a prisoner of your past. Become the architect
of your future" (Robin Sharma). I have come across this quote several times and each time, it has
been inspirational. Moving to the United States from Iraq at the age of eight is one of the
challenges for which I am most grateful. Growing up as a child in a country with poor living
standards, poor education, and poor medical care made living conditions difficult for my family and
I on a day–to–day basis. Coming here and being able to see how wide–ranged and expansive the
pharmaceutical field was tremendously encouraging. During my high school career at Center Line
High, I was focused and determined. I excelled on the girls varsity swim team, and in my junior
year, I became the captain of the swim team, qualified for counties, and placed second place in the
100–meter breaststroke. As senior year approached, I was hit with devastating news. My mother was
diagnosed with stage–three breast cancer. Trying to stay focused became one of the most difficult
tasks. Senior year surly left its mark. While other students were excitedly preparing for prom and
graduation, I was by my mother's side giving her every bit of encouragement even...show more

The pharmacy became my main source of motivation. With all the caring pharmacists providing
me inspiration and hope; I began to enjoy visiting the pharmacy and I yearned for each visit. The
pharmacists were aware of my mother's condition and never failed to encourage me to stay
positive with every aspect of my life. As I took their advice, I stood by my mothers side, went to
college, finished all my prerequisites for pharmacy and now I aspire to become the same inspiration
I was given in my time of difficulty. A pharmacist that has been through the worst is a pharmacist

Fast forward 10 years, and I see myself sitting around a table with people from nay countries and
endeavoring to reach a resolution. Although this career in international is important, I hope to
balance my life between my career and other meaningful life experiences like developing deep
companionships, travel, culture and giving back to the community. Because preparing for a
meaningful life will result in preparing for a more focused and successful career. I enjoy being able
to challenge new circumstances and therefore, it is my hope that my undergraduate education will
offer me the opportunity to enhance my academic knowledge and qualifications and a variety of
experiences both with the confines of the university and outside of the university.

turning entrance. Before I stepped outside of our car, my husband reiterated what he originally said,
"After my numerous years of being outside the classroom, I should consider tapping at a college
degree." For the second time, I brushed–off the conversation. Do you think I was preventing God
from setting me up for a college life? Despite what I didn't want to do, that sunny hot evening,
when my husband picked me up from work, I quickly put together what I thought, was a
legitimate excuse of why I didn't want to launch a college career. The shabby justification, I used,
didn't hold water. When I finally depleted all my vague excuses, I had a brain freeze. To evade the

Whether we want to agree or not, He has a purpose for our life. Just like He had a plan for
Joshua's life, in Chapter 1, who became a courageous leader, He has picked you, specifically for
His Plan. Philippians 1:6 explains what I said better: "Being confident of this very thing, that He
which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." If you are
trying to get your own college agenda to come together with God's divine program, you're wasting
your time. Why? When you think that you have everything intact, God will allow thunderstorms
into your life, and the lightening will strike your entire college agenda. This electrical disaster
will shatter your college dreams into little bitty pieces. The broken pieces fall into three
categories: your fears, rebellion, and your disobedience. They stifle your blessings and restrict
the favor of God; therefore, He removes them, and He gives you what you need: a great big dose
of Him. Did God give me a form of Him, when my husband's spontaneous idea for me to quit
working and touch at a college degree, finally, seemed like a good idea? At that time, I wasn't quite
sure. I still evaded the thought to leave work completely, but to gain relief of what was happening,
inside my workplace, I hastily created my own plan, and I fixated upon my goal to find another

I am a Spanish major with a track in Secondary Education and a minor in International Studies, and
I am an Honors College student. Hence, my course schedule is rather tight and does not have
much flexibility. This study abroad program is of great assistance, as I will be able to get credits for
my Spanish major and Honors College electives during the summer while exploring a new country.
Through this experience, I will be able to enhance my academic interests. I am hoping to immensely
improve my Spanish language skills and see education from an international perspective. Also, the
Honors College emphasizes the importance of experiential learning through study abroad. In
addition, my professional career goals include teaching Spanish and going

I am a slightly older than the average transfer student – I originally attended college right out of high
school ten years ago. I graduated a year early because I was so unbelievably eager to get out into
the real world. However, I was without strong study habits or organizational skills, and no support
system, so I quickly floundered. I failed a class for the first time after staying up all night studying
and subsequently sleeping through the final for which I was studying. That mistake distressed me
after working so hard to get to that point and I withdrew from the school the next semester. Prior to
that point in time, I had been academically competitive and had a confidence that I could do great
things. I didn't feel that way after this...show more content...
I am doing well in classes that I never thought I would enroll in and have worked as a math tutor
and I am currently working as a supplemental instruction leader for organic chemistry. The subjects I
have tutored have of course become the subjects I have the deepest understanding of myself –
namely statistics and organic chemistry. I have decided to focus on chemical engineering because of
my interest in chemistry, math, and physics and a chemical engineering program will allow me to
explore all of these subjects simultaneously. I am specifically interested in process design in the
industry of pharmaceutical research. I believe that improving the availability of high–quality
pharmaceutical drugs for the growing world population while protecting the environment in
which we produce those drugs is vitally important. I want to not only do great things; I want to
do important things and I believe that being a chemical engineer would allow me to make a
significant contribution to the world. My initial experience with school made me fearful at first
but has now provided a scaffold for my current success. I have experienced failure and learned from
my mistakes and improved my approach to school. Life experience has helped me focus my
energy and I have worked to develop the skills necessary to be successful. I am ready to do great
things and excited to transfer to complete my degree in chemical

College Essay On Journal Entry
This week's journal entry starts off with Monday, and like the past three weeks a single day will
account for one journal. As for why I am writing an entry beginning with Monday this is because
it is "block week," meaning I am will be at placement from Monday to Friday this week! This is
an occasion that given all else that my mind has been preoccupied with within the last couple of
weeks, I thought I would be too preoccupied to get excited about and enjoy, yet as soon as I got to
placement Monday and in the days following, getting ready for bed I realized this was not the case,
at least in those instances–getting to bed for the following day and once up in the morning for the
start of the given day. Overlooking the aspects that may seem unpleasant, such as the long days,
resulting in great tiredness–especially with Wheel–Trans, getting ready for bed, knowing that for the
next four days I am heading to placement and not to school, it felt like each day I was getting ready
to go on mini field trip, like those in grade school, looking past the fact that I was going to the same
location each day.
The day much like any other typical day at placement started with me waiting for the students where
I could see the buses. Upon seeing the buses arrive I thought today I would go further down to...show

Davis's class, go with "S" to pick–up a late sleep like she would like followed by taking her up to
Math class. I enjoyed this walk with "S" as I have yet to really get to know her or work with her.
Furthermore, I have come to see how she has trouble with the social aspect of school; peers don't
really talk to her much and how she really would just like someone to talk to. So, on this walk of
ours among other topics I ask her how her weekend was, given that we are heading to Math, how
math is going, as she has been having trouble with the subject recently working with on it "split
between" the given instructor for math as well as Ms.

College Readiness Essay
Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good
candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for
students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate.
According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009), to about 83 percent ofhigh school graduates
enroll in some form of postsecondary education, but only about 52 percent of students complete their
degrees. Further, a very small proportion of students complete a degree in four years–"among
students starting at 'four–year' institutions, only 34 percent finish a B.A. in four years, 64 percent
within six years, and 69 percent within eight and a half years."...show more content...
According to David Conley, readiness for college contains four key principles: key cognitive
strategies, key content knowledge, key self management skills, key knowledge about post and
secondary education. Although college readiness can be measured sing ACT andSATscores, which
developed a college readiness benchmarks to see whether a prospective college student has a
high prospect of success in college courses of English, social sciences, Algebra and biology.
However, if your test scores are not meeting the typical benchmarked standard does that truly
determine I you are ready for college. No. One thing we have to take under deep consideration is
that each student is different and some don't test very well. What happens to a child who has a
really good GPA, high determination and a low test score? College recruits deem that these
children are not college ready. College readiness should be measured with a more natural eye,
because some students may not be good in particular subject areas, however, what would be the
likeness of high school students completing and earning a degree in a field that they enjoy. The
nature of humans is to do things that they enjoy, to read stories that they can relate too, to complete
a task that means a lot to them. This is the natural eye that we should look at college readiness with.
How determined and passionate are the students on furthering their education. How

During my junior year of high school, I became extremely confident in the idea that I wanted to
pursue a career in the field of Event Management with a major in Hospitality Management. Due to
the fact that my major of choice is somewhat general, it is offered at many different universities
worldwide. I had to ask myself, where could I truly excel in this career field and what university
would give me the opportunity to apply my skills in the real world? New York University was
always one of my top choices on my list of colleges to apply to, but it wasn't until I discovered the
NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism that
NYU became my number one school of choice. Reading about the Jonathan M.

  • 4. College Entry Essay Fortunately, my diligent work ethic in high school has granted me admission into the college of my dreams, tuition free. Although I am relieved when I consider the lessened burden of college expenses, I still realize that I will face an overwhelming bill for room and board and many other college costs. I plan to work part–time this summer in order to finance part of my education on my own. I hope to cover as many fees as possible in order to minimize the burden that will fall on my parents. My goal is to begin studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in college this fall. Engineering has always been in the back of my mind because of my unending love for science. • 5. College Entry Essay Walking down memory lane, in the days of high school in Lusaka, Zambia. My primary goal was to get good grades, so I could get admission in an American college. I remember having imaginary competitors in my class who were never aware that we were in competition. I made sure no one would beat my grades, I recall, one of my tough competitor by the name of George Kamfwa, Kamfwa beat me in mathematics scores. I was bothered, I felt defeated, it was at that time that I upgraded my game by studying more and using new methods and no one else beat me until the final exams. Two years later, I was admitted in an Americancollege and my dreams of studying in the united states came through. • 6. College Entry Essay "We are all here for some special reason. Stop being a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future" (Robin Sharma). I have come across this quote several times and each time, it has been inspirational. Moving to the United States from Iraq at the age of eight is one of the challenges for which I am most grateful. Growing up as a child in a country with poor living standards, poor education, and poor medical care made living conditions difficult for my family and I on a day–to–day basis. Coming here and being able to see how wide–ranged and expansive the pharmaceutical field was tremendously encouraging. During my high school career at Center Line High, I was focused and determined. I excelled on the girls varsity swim team, and in my junior year, I became the captain of the swim team, qualified for counties, and placed second place in the 100–meter breaststroke. As senior year approached, I was hit with devastating news. My mother was diagnosed with stage–three breast cancer. Trying to stay focused became one of the most difficult tasks. Senior year surly left its mark. While other students were excitedly preparing for prom and graduation, I was by my mother's side giving her every bit of encouragement even...show more content... The pharmacists were aware of my mother's condition and never failed to encourage me to stay positive with every aspect of my life. As I took their advice, I stood by my mothers side, went to college, finished all my prerequisites for pharmacy and now I aspire to become the same inspiration I was given in my time of difficulty. • 8. College Entry Essay turning entrance. Before I stepped outside of our car, my husband reiterated what he originally said, "After my numerous years of being outside the classroom, I should consider tapping at a college degree." For the second time, I brushed–off the conversation. Do you think I was preventing God from setting me up for a college life? Despite what I didn't want to do, that sunny hot evening, when my husband picked me up from work, I quickly put together what I thought, was a legitimate excuse of why I didn't want to launch a college career. The shabby justification, I used, didn't hold water. When I finally depleted all my vague excuses, I had a brain freeze. To evade the college degree topic, and slowly...show more content... Whether we want to agree or not, He has a purpose for our life. Just like He had a plan for Joshua's life, in Chapter 1, who became a courageous leader, He has picked you, specifically for His Plan. Philippians 1:6 explains what I said better: "Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." If you are trying to get your own college agenda to come together with God's divine program, you're wasting your time. Why? When you think that you have everything intact, God will allow thunderstorms into your life, and the lightening will strike your entire college agenda. This electrical disaster will shatter your college dreams into little bitty pieces. The broken pieces fall into three categories: your fears, rebellion, and your disobedience. They stifle your blessings and restrict the favor of God; therefore, He removes them, and He gives you what you need: a great big dose of Him. Did God give me a form of Him, when my husband's spontaneous idea for me to quit working and touch at a college degree, finally, seemed like a good idea? At that time, I wasn't quite sure. I still evaded the thought to leave work completely, but to gain relief of what was happening, inside my workplace, I hastily created my own plan, and I fixated upon my goal to find another Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. College Entry Essay I am a slightly older than the average transfer student – I originally attended college right out of high school ten years ago. I graduated a year early because I was so unbelievably eager to get out into the real world. However, I was without strong study habits or organizational skills, and no support system, so I quickly floundered. I failed a class for the first time after staying up all night studying and subsequently sleeping through the final for which I was studying. That mistake distressed me after working so hard to get to that point and I withdrew from the school the next semester. Prior to that point in time, I had been academically competitive and had a confidence that I could do great things. I didn't feel that way after this...show more content... I am doing well in classes that I never thought I would enroll in and have worked as a math tutor and I am currently working as a supplemental instruction leader for organic chemistry. The subjects I have tutored have of course become the subjects I have the deepest understanding of myself – namely statistics and organic chemistry. I have decided to focus on chemical engineering because of my interest in chemistry, math, and physics and a chemical engineering program will allow me to explore all of these subjects simultaneously. I am specifically interested in process design in the industry of pharmaceutical research. I believe that improving the availability of high–quality pharmaceutical drugs for the growing world population while protecting the environment in which we produce those drugs is vitally important. I want to not only do great things; I want to do important things and I believe that being a chemical engineer would allow me to make a significant contribution to the world. My initial experience with school made me fearful at first but has now provided a scaffold for my current success. I have experienced failure and learned from my mistakes and improved my approach to school. Life experience has helped me focus my energy and I have worked to develop the skills necessary to be successful. I am ready to do great things and excited to transfer to complete my degree in chemical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. College Essay On Journal Entry This week's journal entry starts off with Monday, and like the past three weeks a single day will account for one journal. As for why I am writing an entry beginning with Monday this is because it is "block week," meaning I am will be at placement from Monday to Friday this week! This is an occasion that given all else that my mind has been preoccupied with within the last couple of weeks, I thought I would be too preoccupied to get excited about and enjoy, yet as soon as I got to placement Monday and in the days following, getting ready for bed I realized this was not the case, at least in those instances–getting to bed for the following day and once up in the morning for the start of the given day. Overlooking the aspects that may seem unpleasant, such as the long days, resulting in great tiredness–especially with Wheel–Trans, getting ready for bed, knowing that for the next four days I am heading to placement and not to school, it felt like each day I was getting ready to go on mini field trip, like those in grade school, looking past the fact that I was going to the same location each day. The day much like any other typical day at placement started with me waiting for the students where I could see the buses. Upon seeing the buses arrive I thought today I would go further down to...show more content... • 12. College Readiness Essay Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate. According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009), to about 83 percent ofhigh school graduates enroll in some form of postsecondary education, but only about 52 percent of students complete their degrees. Further, a very small proportion of students complete a degree in four years–"among students starting at 'four–year' institutions, only 34 percent finish a B.A. in four years, 64 percent within six years, and 69 percent within eight and a half years."...show more content... According to David Conley, readiness for college contains four key principles: key cognitive strategies, key content knowledge, key self management skills, key knowledge about post and secondary education. Although college readiness can be measured sing ACT andSATscores, which developed a college readiness benchmarks to see whether a prospective college student has a high prospect of success in college courses of English, social sciences, Algebra and biology. However, if your test scores are not meeting the typical benchmarked standard does that truly determine I you are ready for college. No. One thing we have to take under deep consideration is that each student is different and some don't test very well. What happens to a child who has a really good GPA, high determination and a low test score? College recruits deem that these children are not college ready. College readiness should be measured with a more natural eye, because some students may not be good in particular subject areas, however, what would be the likeness of high school students completing and earning a degree in a field that they enjoy. The nature of humans is to do things that they enjoy, to read stories that they can relate too, to complete a task that means a lot to them. This is the natural eye that we should look at college readiness with. How determined and passionate are the students on furthering their education. How Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Due to the fact that my major of choice is somewhat general, it is offered at many different universities worldwide.
