What it means 100% of our forestlands are certified to the SFI Forest Management standard FIBER SOURCING What it covers How we procure wood from other landowners and the practices that happen on their lands. What it means Our entire wood fiber supply is certified to the SFI Fiber Sourcing Standard. Our products are made with wood sourced from legal, responsible and non- controversial sources. Our products can carry this label. CHAIN OF CUSTODY What it covers How fiber from certified forests flows through our mills and export yards. What it means We can pass certified content credits to our customers.
  16. 16. Is the wood legally harvested?
  17. 17. “Both the U.S. and Canada have national laws and regulations that underpin individual state and provincial laws and regulations affecting the practice of forestry. There are no major inconsistencies in terms of the legal protections afforded to land tenure, environmental quality, social welfare, worker rights, indigenous people’s rights, endangered species protection and high environmental and cultural resources. There are no U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions that do not have effective social laws.” From a standard risk assessment:
  18. 18. “The Illegal Logging Portal (illegal-logging.org) identifies the U.S. and Canada as global leaders in addressing the problem of deforestation.” “Because all [x company’s] fiber originates from known supply areas and many of the loggers are trained under the SFI Program, there is a “low risk” of illegal logging.” “Law enforcement in the U.S. and Canada are identified by the World Bank as among the most effective in the world.” Generally acceptable statements:

  20. 20. “To be clear, legality is not synonymous with sustainability. What is sustainable may not always be legal, and what is legal may not always be sustainable.”
  21. 21. “…forest management certification and timber legality verification services are not a “quick fix” for ensuring illegal timber does not enter supply chains or even for meeting timber legality requirements. The legality of forest products is determined solely by a country’s laws and regulations.”
