Photosynthesis uses light energy, carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose and oxygen. The light reaction uses chlorophyll and light energy to split water, producing ATP, NADPH and oxygen. The dark reaction, or Calvin cycle, uses the ATP and NADPH to convert carbon dioxide into glucose, which is then used or stored as starch in the chloroplast stroma.
