2. ARE YOU MALE OR FEMALE?
I asked this question so that I
had an idea of how many
males and females I used to
collect my overall results. So,
it was essential that I had
both sets of gender, rather
than one set, so that I get
viewpoints from both. I had a
sample of 5 females and 6
males.
3. WHAT IS YOUR AGE GROUP?
I decided to look at a range of age
groups that went from 12-15 to
26+, this was because I felt that
having a selection of ages will give
me an overview of what both
young as well as older people think
of my trailer. Also, although my
trailer was targeted towards a
younger demographic, having
other age groups helped me make
a good comparison.
4. HOW OFTEN DO YOU WATCH SOAP OPERAS?
This gave me an idea of how
frequently people watch Soap
Operas, so I can identify the
difference of thought between
someone who usually watches
Soaps, and someone who doesn’t
necessarily watch Soaps whatsoever.
The results demonstrated that
54.55% watched it daily, 36.36% did
not watch it and finally 9.09%
watched it monthly. This therefore
gave me viewpoints from people who
watch it every single day.
5. WHAT THEMES ARE COMMONLY USED WITHIN
A SOAP OPERA?
Having themes within a Soap is
key because they influence the
direction of the Soap opera as a
whole. The results illustrate that
the majority believe that conflict
(36.36%) is a common factor,
whilst a small amount believe
that there are other factors
(9.09%).
6. WAS MISE EN SCENE USED IN A UNIQUE
MANNER?
Mise en scene includes factors
such as: environment, props and
costumes. The results indicate
that a large amount of people
believed that mise en scene was
used in a unique way (81.82%),
whilst only 18.18% said it was
not used uniquely.
7. WAS THE DIGETIC/NON-DIGETIC SOUND USED
EFFECTIVELY?
The digetic/non-digetic sound was
used throughout the trailer, and so
the verbal/non-verbal code was
crucial to create the overall tension
of the trailer. The results suggests
that 72.73% believe sound was
used effectively, whereas 27.27%
said that it was not used effectively.
So, next time I intend to make sure
that the sound is used in a more
efficient way.
8. WHAT CAMERA MOVEMENT INTRIGUED YOU
THE MOST?
This question allowed me to retrieve
information from the audience on
what they felt was the most
intriguing camera movement. The
results concluded that 36.36% felt
zooming was the best shot, others
felt pan was used effectively with
36.36%, and finally Dolly and others
were matched 18.18%.
9. WAS THE CAMERA MOVEMENT WITHIN THE SOAP
PARALLEL WITH THE NON-DIGETIC SOUND?
This question was essential to
include because I personally
feel that having the non-digetic
sound being parallel with my
soap allows the trailer to flow
better in general. The results
shows that 100% of people feel
that it was parallel.
10. HOW WAS THE PACE OF THE SOAP OPERA?
The pace of the trailer determined
the types of emotion that will be
felt throughout the trailer. The
results revealed that 72.73% felt it
was fast and energetic, whilst
27.27% felt it was slow and tense.
11. WAS THE SOAP OPERA TRAILER ORIGINAL?
This question was essential
because as a group we
looked to create a Soap that
was different compared to
what BBC 2 distribute on
their channel. The results
connote that the majority felt
that my Soap trailer was
original (90.91%) and there
was a differentiation
between my own Soap and
others. On the other hand
some felt that it was not
original (9.09%) and so
similar to other soaps.
