42. EDUCATION INTERNSHIP Institute of Business Management offers a variety of services, which assist students in making career decisions. An internship, of a minimum of six weeks in a reputable firm, is compulsory for all graduating BBA and MBA students. The purpose is to give students exposure to an actual business situation before they embark on a career. COUNSELLING SERVICE It helps students define and select career alternatives. Guidance is provided on skills and strategies essential for effective job search. These skills and strategies include letter-writing, resume development, and interview techniques. WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS They include job-search strategies, interview practice in videotape sessions and career goal refinement through self-assessment and decision-making exercises.
48. Independent studiesA high degree of student faculty interaction is our norm. The development of a collegial environment within the student community is an important part of the learning experience. The teachers report each term on students’ attendance, work in class and written work submitted for the class. These contribute to the final grade of the student.
49. EDUCATION TEACHING METHODS Work submitted during the course has bearing on whether or not the student will be allowed to continue in the course and to take the final examination. Lecturers assume that students would read extensively, make notes on their own and attend lectures regularly. All proposals for new courses are considered in detail by the curriculum sub-committee of the Board of Studies. The students’ views and experiences are taken into account in academic program development. An external examiner system is in operation to evaluate the quality of courses. The Institute also reviews its programs in the light of academic developments, professional entrance requirements, examination results and the career of the IoBM’s alumni.

51. EDUCATION COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION After completion of their MBA program all students are required to appear in a comprehensive examination conducted by the Institute. The comprehensive examination provides students an opportunity to integrate and synthesize the various aspects of academic achievements and overall work done in their chosen major and the core courses studied during their MBA. The preparation for the comprehensive examination would develop a broader understanding of the significance of the major chosen by the students within the frame-work of their overall educational experience. Students of MBA Executive program are exempted from this examination.

EDUCATION COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION - STRUCTURE The comprehensive examination is of 3 hours duration divided equally into three segments consisting of three case studies each of one hour duration. The case studies are related to Finance, HRM and Marketing. To qualify the comprehensive examination, a student should get satisfactory grades in all the three case studies. The examination is conducted twice a year in the month of May and September. Passing the comprehensive examination is a mandatory requirement for obtaining and MBA degree. Students are allowed a maximum of two attempts to qualify the comprehensive exam. A third attempt may be availed only after Dean’s permission. A workshop prior to the examination may be offered to prepare students for the examination. The comprehensive examination may not be taken unless the student has completed all course requirements and maintained a CGPA of at least 3.0 in their program.
54. RESEARCH AT IoBM Research is accorded top priority at the Institute of Business Management. IoBM has a full-fledged research department headed by a Director with the following components: • Every full time faculty member has a contractual obligation to complete one major research study during a year. • The CBM MBA is research intensive and every optional course is designed to include a research component. Consultancy work has been undertaken for various national and international organizations. Books published such as Money and Banking in Pakistan, Financial Management in Pakistan. A book on Case Studies on Organizational Behavior in Pakistan is under preparation.
