2. IT Professional…?
An IT Professional is a person who can
install, execute and support systems software
and hardware with technical standards and
specifications and solves IT related issues in a
professional manner meeting the end user
requirements.
IT managers need to monitor the day-to-
day health of complex systems while
simultaneously tracking innovations in
technology that might create competitive
advantages.
3. IT Strategy
It is the planning made by the organization to differentiate it from other
competitors in a positive way and makes the organization to use its
information technology assets efficiently and effectively to reach its goals.
It seeks to coordinate and integrate the functional activities of a business in
order to achieve long-term organizational objectives.
It generally compiles and disseminates the vision and
the mission statement of the company. (Andersson, G., & Larsson, R, 2006)
All strategic planning deals with at least one of three key questions: "What
do we do?" "For whom do we do it?" and "How do we excel?" The third
question refers mostly to the competitors. (Pirraglia, 2015)
4. IT Policy
IT Policies are the tools of IT governance which form the standards for the
performance of an organization by creating a logical set of instructions to deal
with a situation on the network.
They generally provide guidance about the organization's mission and
implementation of the strategies to control the behavior of the organization.
Key factors that determine the policy acceptance are user awareness,
education, and participation which can be promoted through business
services/products marketing. (Wilson, 2008)
5. IT Governance
It is the process utilized by the organizations to align IT strategy with
business strategy in a more effective way to achieve its goals. It consists of
structural component dealing with IT activities and functional component
dealing with IT policies that forms the basis for the organizational goals.
(Shuptar, 2013)
The key benefits of implementing an IT governance in a business include
Strategic alignment,
Enhanced value delivery
Improved performance and resource management
Better quality of IT output
These results in increased business value.(Dintrans, Ponnuveetil, & Anand, 2013)
6. IT Strategy, Policy and Governance in
Information Systems
• The silent feature in the world of Information management technology is IS
Strategy which is intended to provide competitive advantage to the
organization chosen.
• The purpose of adopting IS policies is to maintain the security for the
information systems from unauthorized access and usage. They provide
base to acquire, integrate and audit IS and are more important in a
distributed computing environment because of the constraining activity
from a remote location. (Lee, 2001)
• An IS can be regulated by IT Governance which can be monitored and
developed as per company's strategy by the usage of ITIL (IT
Infrastructure Library) and COBIT methods.
7. Summary And Discussion
The implementation of IT strategy, policy and governance enables IT
Professional in enhancing the knowledge on alignment of planning processes
with budget planning thus, helping them in gaining insight knowledge on the
IT governance framework that better fits the organizational culture.
Thus, an effective strategy and good Governance frame work should be
established to represent the every part of the organization and required policies
and procedures should be established to measure the success or failure of
Governance strategies over time.
