5. General Assembly-What it is?
 All member states of UN send their representatives
to the General Aseembly.
 It is the biggest organ of the UN due to it’s
composition.
 Countries can send up to five members here but
when it comes to voting on various issues,each
country’s entitled to a single vote only.
 It meets once every year for 3 months from the 3rd
week of September to the last week of December
 However a special sesion can be convened at the
request of the Security Council,if the majority of the
members of the UN make a request.The General
Assembly elects it’s President every sesion.

6. President of the General Assembly
 The President of the United Nations General
Assembly is a position voted for by
representatives in the United Nations
General Assembly (UNGA) on a yearly basis.
The President presides over the sessions of
the General Assembly. The current
officeholder is John Ashe of Antigua and
Barbuda.

7. The General Assembly-Functions
 It can discuss any matter affecting international peace
and security.
 It passes the budget of UN.
 It elects the 10 non permanent members of the Security
Council
 It elects the memebers of the ECOSOC and judges for
the International court of justice.
 It participates in the election of the Secretary General of
UN.
 It admits new members in the UN on the
recommendation of the Security Council.
 It receives and supervises reports of the Security Council
and other organs of the UN.
