What is efflorescence?

  1. 1. What Is Efflorescence? What efflorescence is, how toremove it, and how to stop it.
  2. 2. EfflorescenceEfflorescence is adeposit of solublesalts, usually white incolor, which canappear on the surfaceof masonry orconcrete.
  3. 3. How Does Efflorescence Form?Three circumstances must take place for efflorescence toform (without all three, efflorescence can not form). Thecircumstances are as follows:1. Soluble salts must be present in the concrete or masonry.2. Moisture must be present (moisture can be present in theair, on the surface, or in the concrete) to pick up thesoluble salts and transfer them to the surface of theconcrete or masonry.3. Evaporation or hydrostatic pressure must cause thesolution (salt and water) to move to the surface.
  4. 4. How To Remove EfflorescenceThe most effective way to remove efflorescenceis with the Armor Efflorescence Remover byFoundation Armor.Unlike other cleaners, or the use of acids andpressure washing, the Armor EfflorescenceRemover will remove efflorescence from thesurface and from DEEP within the pores of theconcrete or brick.
  5. 5. How To Stop EfflorescenceIf there is moisture and saltspresent, efflorescence will continue to formUNLESS you seal the concrete or brick with oneof the following sealers:1. Armor S2000 (enhanced sodium silicate)2. Armor L3000 (enhanced lithium silicate)3. Armor SX5000 (enhanced silane/siloxane)
