4. “I had a look at the Light and Life
Exhibition ... It was quite short and
not massively interesting, nothing to
shout about, but it only cost £2 so I
couldn’t complain.”
5. “I had a look online for cheap places
to eat and came across Sad Man’s
Tongue Bistro & Bar ... And I was able
to get a table straight away.”
9. “Straight away I was struck by the
architecture in Prague – lots of the
buildings are really grand in an old-
fashioned kind of way, as you’d
expect from somewhere in this
region.”
11. “Between the Woods & the Water”
“The fin-de-siècle stucco might have come
straight out of an icing gun; there were
terracotta balustrades, egg-shaped cupolas
and glimpses through glass double-doors
of hydrangeas banked up ornate staircases
… an echo of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
at its farthest edge.”
13. “There was blood … everywhere and
plenty of violence to witness. I saw
students – many of whom looked a
lot like me – get their heads clubbed
in by miners and police.”
