Today’s session is in 3 parts, SAMR - what is it exactly? and how does it help learning with the iPads? We’re going to talk a little about Digital Citizenship - safety online and balance then we’ll take a quick dip into some of the apps (more so in G3-5) that are probably going to feature in your son’s learning over coming months to give you an idea of the types of ways the iPad is going to be used in class.
SAMR was designed by Dr Ruben Puentedura around 2006 to help teachers integrate the use of technology into their practise and transform the learning the of their students. The model sees the use of technology as a continuum - starting with using technology to “Enhance” what we do now to “Transforming” our practise, enabling us to do things we could have never imagined before.

There are apps out there now - you have to pay for them - like ParentKit (but I strongly recommend you don’t use them - if they accidentally switch on or you forget to turn them off your child’s learning at school could be adversely affected but not being able to access what they need at school. It has some adverse affects like changing where the apps are when the restriction schedule is turned off (it doesn’t put the apps back in folder or on the screen where they were before - that could be confusing.
