Teenolism

  1. 1. The addiction of teens of the modern day and how to find sobriety away from these addiction
  2. 2. What is Teenolism? • Teenolism is modern day teens and the simple things in life that many become “addicted” to. • Some of these are harsh realities and others are mere actions caused by hormones during pubescent years that many never stopped acting on and are still doing to this day.
  3. 3. Examples of Real World Teenolism • Drugs such as: -Weed -Prescription drugs/ Steroids -Even cocaine • Relationships • Parties • Sexual Relations • Alcohol
  4. 4. What’s the problem? • Listed were some problems that many years back adults faced. But now its rolled down generations to now it being the problem for many teens and young adults
  5. 5. Drugs and Alcohol • Drugs are used to help teens feel better or just to have “fun” with. Teens may think that some of the drugs they do are harmless but everything has a cost.
  6. 6. Marijuana • The chemical in marijuana or weed called THC attaches to neurons throughout the brain the release dopamine into the reward system of the brain causing the high many feel. But this high isn’t good. What it really is, is the chemical attacking your neurons hurting your coordination, judgment and your learning. These things alone can hurt you later on in life and can potentially kill you. Since your learning is impaired you’ll often have trouble in school and maybe even become stupid. Decision making is effected and because of this you could end up days after the use of marijuana either in a hospital, jail, juvenile facility or simply in front of your parents are they yell at you for making horrible decisions.
  7. 7. Prescription Drugs/ Steroids Recent studies show that children of the age 14 on older use prescription drugs. • Teens abuse prescription drugs for a number of reasons, such as to get high, to stop pain, or because they think it will help them with school work. • There studies that suggest different genders use these drugs for different purposes. Boys use them to get high while girls may use them to stay alert or lose weight. Either way the results are horrible. • Abuse of some of the prescriptions can cause sickly feelings, making it hard to breathe sometimes and even overdose. Some drugs cause irregular heart beat when taken at high amounts and this can kill teens. Seizures can occur also. • Prescription drugs can also increase health problems later on in children’s life.
  8. 8. Prescription Drugs/ Steroids cont. • Steroids or Anabolic Steroids are awful and can cause serious issues in many teens. They are either prescription or nonprescription drugs. They effect teens emotionally and physically. • Steroids effect the part of the brain called the limbic system which controls mood. This leads to mood swings and aggressive behavior among users. It also takes a toll on feeling such as jealousy making kids believe in something that’s not true and make many paranoid in most cases. It also makes them feel invincible, like nothing could ever hurt them and this can make them a threat to themselves. • The physical toll on teens can be excruciatingly painful. Steroids can lead to high blood pressure, changes in cholesterol, enlarged heart, severe acne, kidney problems, liver diseases and even liver cancer. • There are also effects that only occur in specific genders. In males the often have growth of breasts and shrinkage in there testicles. They have low sperm count making them unable to have children and increased risk for prostate cancer. In females, they have a lower voice, growth of facial hair, changes of menstrual cycles and even baldness can occur.
  9. 9. Cocaine • Cocaine is an upper many use to get the high and “good” feeling off of it. Its also a stimulant that changes the way nerve cells talk to each other. It gives them a strong release of dopamine and gives them the high but only for a very short time. A crash sets in later making them tired and cravings of doing it more for wanting the high again will set in. Because of the high many users get the have many risk that follow: Dilated pupils, high body temperature, irregular heart beat, inability to sleep, panic attacks, unpredictable behavior and paranoid psychosis which basically makes them lose touch with reality. There are early on signs that people see: Hoarse voice, loss of smell, nosebleeds, and runny nose because of snorting cocaine. When injected many have a higher risk of contracting HIV and other diseases that can be transmitted by blood contact.
  10. 10. Why list Relationship? Relationships among young adults have crumbled down. Trust is broken more than not, and many teens at a young age start to learn what an unstable relationship is before the age of 18. Mostly due to hormones causing them to feel emotions that lead to many misconstrued thoughts that often make relationships horrible. But many teens don’t realize that they still follow this horrible pattern of one mistake after the next and either think they have a problem or can never have a good relationship. But its not that at all. Often its simply a learning experience. Teens can’t find the love of there life in relationships that are based on sex and misconstrued thoughts. Basically all there is to say: It’s your fault but don’t worry your relationship problems will go away eventually.
  11. 11. Sexual Relations • Unfortunately, teens nowadays are into sex. There are many things we tell children to scare them away from sex, like diseases and pregnancy, but one conception we never tell them is the effects it has emotionally and how it effects the rest of there life. And even how it effects there brain.
  12. 12. Sexual Relations cont. • Sex at an early age can sometimes scar teens. Leaving them distraught and depressed. Many don’t have anyone to turn to so there isn’t away for them to confront the horrible truth behind their actions. Teens will go into a depressant stage and then comes the harsh reality of suicide. All because of a lousy mistake.
  13. 13. Sexual Relations cont. • Not all children go into a depressant stage. Some go into the addict phase. They start doing it more than not and this can hurt them way more than they realize. The addiction from committing these actions can make them a sex addict which is one of the hardest addictions to conquer. This addiction can follow them into there adult years and can hurt there future. A known fact is many prostitute started at an early age and this could wound up being the many teens I’m talking about.
  14. 14. Why don’t parents know about it? There are three types of parents in this world: -The perfectionist -The optimist -The un-caring The perfectionist is the parent that makes sure there child succeeds at everything and never has a tarnished reputations. More than not there children will never tell them about it. They have the sneakiest kids often but don’t realize it. There are in a blissful ignorance that there child is doing everything right and doing nothing wrong. The optimist is the parent who thinks whatever there child does is okay as long as they don’t do it again and apologize. This parent doesn’t realize they are setting their child in the wrong direction because there isn’t an honest stopping point given. Sometimes the optimist parents doesn’t have a horrible child because they are also the most caring. The un-caring parent is the one who sad but honestly doesn’t want to know what there child does or doesn’t care about there child’s life. They are either addicts of some sort, depressed or are simply those who don’t have time to worry about their children. These parents don’t realize the effect they have on their child because too much freedom for a young person can destroy them.
  15. 15. Ways of Sobriety • Many of these addictions are all hard to overcome but it can be done. • The first step is talking to someone. Not only to a friend but to an adult. Many kids will think they will get in trouble but adults are supposed to help you. They may get mad but later on you’ll thank them. • Talk to a therapist. • Get yourself rehabilitated in some way. For users of drugs and alcohol, go to rehab centers, or local groups that help people overcome addiction. • For people with problems in relationships you have to first talk to someone about seeing a therapist who can lead you on the path of knowing how to put yourself in a healthier relationship. Your not crazy you simply need guidance and wisdom.
