3. 1- CCA IN MATH
When the assessment exercise are conducted in short
intervals on regular basis , the assessment tends to
become continuous.
Comprehensive means assessment of both scholastic
and co-scholastics aspect of student’s development.
4. Focusing points of learning
assessment in mathematics at
primary level are
How children learn mathematics.
The mathematical concepts included in primary school
curriculum .
Children’s understand of mathematics.
5. Aspect of Assessment of Mathematics Learning at
primary Level
What should be
assessed in
mathematics?
Mathematics
communication
.
Disposition
toward s
mathematics.
Concept s
and
procedures
Mathematical
reasoning.
Using
mathematical
knowledge to
solve problem.
6. 2- Different types of test item in mathematics.
i) Objective-Based Items.
# Example of objectives of mathematics learning.
Objectives: Behavioral specifications:
a) Knowledge - * recall facts ,theorems, rules,
definitions principles, terms.
* recognizes facts, relations,
formulae etc.
Example-which is smallest
prime number?
7. b)Comprehension-
*detects errors in figures, statements
and rectifies these.
* interprets the principle in his/her own term.
* converts word into symbols and vice versa.
* classifies on the basis of certain criteria.
* provides more example on a principle/rule.
* verifies the mathematical conclusions.
* discriminate between similar things.
Example-The number 9 is an odd number, because
a-It is the biggest one digit number.
b-It is not divisible by 2.
c-It has three factors.
d-It is the square of three.
8. c) Application- * suggests alternative plan of
method for solution.
*takes decision about sufficiency
of the given facts.
* makes prediction and verifies them
Example- One pen cost is 8 rupees. Find out the
price of 10 pens.
d) skills- * use geometrical instruments
correctly .
* represents a given data diagrammatically
* draws geometrical figures with accuracy
and speed.
Example-Make chart on total present of the students in all classes
of any one day.
9. ii) Open-ended Items:
Features of open ended items in math-
No fixed answer,
Solves in different ways and different levels,
Offer students scope for own decision making,
Open to student’s creativity and imagination,
Develops student’s reasoning and communication skill,
Develops students self confidence for higher
achievement.
10. 3- DEVELOPING QUESTION
BANKS IN MATHEMATICS.
i) Purposes of question bank:
Question bank is useful to prepare a test for instant
testing of the learners
Easily evaluate the learner because, questions are
objective based
The learners can prepare themselves in the questions
available in the question bank
Question also help in classroom transactions for
helping students to learn better.
11. 4-ASSESSMENT FOR
MATHEMATICS LEARNING.
i) PROJECT:
ii) PORTFOLIO:
iii) PARTICIPATION IN EXHIBITION:
iv) MATHEMATICSAL QUIZZES AND GAMES:
v) OBSERVING CHILDREN DURING
MATHEMATICS ACTIVITIES:
12. PROJECT WORK
It can be done individually or in group
It is carried out in natural setting
Creates scope for learning mathematical concepts in a real life
situation.
This involves the application of knowledge.
Learning becomes meaningful and pleasurable.
Generally involve collection and analysis of data.
Provide opportunities to explore.
Projects help the learners to learn in an integrated approach
The teacher has to observe the behaviour of the child during the
execution of the project, his interest towards the work, process of
collection, recording, interpreting the data.
13. Portfolio
Portfolio is a purposeful collection of students (best) work that exhibit
the students’ efforts, progress, or achievement in (a) given area(s)
It is a collection of children’s work over a period of time
Comprehensive overview of students achievement.
Students growth on certain skill
Portfolio helps a teacher to assess the learners.
Such activity helps the learners to enjoy mathematics.
Performance of the children be assessed by his/her peers.
The learners assess their own performance.
Portfolio act as a tool for learning.
14. Mathematics Exhibition
Fosters mathematical awareness among the learners.
Helps in skill building,
Develop positive attitudes among the learners.
How to organize exhibition
Demonstration of models, charts by the students and teachers
Photo exhibition(photograph of mathematicians reflecting their
contribution)
Teaching-learning material(TLM) preparation
Popular talk on different mathematical concepts by the teacher or
invited experts
Demonstration of reference books in mathematics
Activities for parents to show their talents and participate in different
activities
15. What are to be observed during the mathematics exhibition for assessing a learner ?
Rationale taken for the text and lesson demonstrated in the exhibition (whether it provide a clear
sense of purpose and drew the understanding of learner?)
Weather the main teaching and learning activities were appropriate, well designed and properly
linked?
Are the activities showed variety, flexibility, creativity and innovation?
Weather the activities taken by the learners are likely to develop their understanding of
mathematical principles?
Weather the demonstration and description of the activity was informative and interesting?
Weather the lessons and resources were user-friendly and realistic for the classroom?
Weather the learner’s demonstration and exhibition be able to communicate his/her ideas
effectively to others?
16. Mathematical Quizzes and
Games
After teaching some concepts the quiz programme may be arranged, this will
enable the learners to practice the concept and apply those in different
situations.
Questions based on real life situations may be asked to the learners
Different round of answering like-answering using paper pencil, answering
without paper-pencil, answering with clue and quick answer round may be
conducted.
Questions based on audio-visual support may be used to arouse interest
among the learners.
Questions prepared by the learners during the course of teaching-learning
process may also be used during quiz programme.
All the children may be allowed to participate in the quiz programme.
Notes de l'éditeur
Item card
Project example –graphical presentation of occupational patterns of the community members; assessed by checklists observation schedule.
Portfolio ,, - write/collect essays ,rhymes, stories , collect paper cutting etc for concept of percentage: evaluate by observation schedule
Integrated=language skill as well as math skill
Ex-1-observation of Ganesh Puja in School
2-Laying out of School Garden
3-Sanitation Programme of your Village
A-discussion of various problems to list
B-why they select such problem
C-steps of doing work , planning , time duration ,resource required
D-if possible strategy may be changed
E-prepare a document
