  • 1. An Overview Of Social Media
  • 2. User Centric  Allows users to do more than just retrieve information. It provides the user with more user-interface, software and storage facilities, all through their browser.  Major features of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, user created web sites, self-publishing platforms, tagging, and social bookmarking.
  • 3. Functions of Social Media  Environment monitoring : gathering data that the company has to know about the needs , threats, opprotunities it will encounter  Media convergence : a mix of telecoms, TV, Internet that leads to interactive TV or Web TV  Interaction between different media, as example: go check out the website to see the end of a commercial
  • 5. Facebook  Use a Fan Page To represent your organization  Prefer Pictures and videos when you post a new status  According to Facebook, posts that include a photo album, picture or video generate about 180%, 120% and 100% more engagement, respectively.  Keep your status short

Facebook (suite)  Post at Times Ideal for Your Fans  The optimal time to post on Facebook is between 8 am and 10 am in the morning and 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm in the afternoon, when Facebook traffic peaks.  Use CTAs like “post,” “comment,” “take,” “submit,” “like” or “tell us” are the most effective. Be direct in your request, and fans will listen.

  • 19. Scoop.it  Scoop.it is a great tool for finding information on topics that are of interest. It can also be used as a tool for people to create and display a magazine of sorts on the topic or topics they choose.
  • 21. Pearltrees  Pearltrees is a visual and collaborative curation tool that allows users to collect, organize and share any URL they find online as well as to upload personal photos and notes. The product features a unique visual interface that allows users to drag and organize collected URLs into units called pearls that themselves can be further organized in a hierarchical structure with pearltrees.

Other users then vote the submission "up" or "down", which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site's pages and front page.
