Civil Society Organizations in Lebanon are not taking advantage of the full capabilities of Social Media. 
• 
Having Social Media channels and being active on them is not enough to get their message heard, to grab the attention of the media, to get politicians to support them, to collaborate with other CSOs, and to grow their user base.
• 
As of the first week of December 2013, Facebook has decreased the organic reach This means that less and less people see the Social Media posts of the CSOs. 
• 
CSOs have yet to change their old Social Media behaviors to react to the changing dynamic of the medium they are in. 
• 
Reach is one of many critical indicators that need to be regularly addressed and closely monitored by CSOs if they are to be heard
Interact with other CSOs on a daily basis. All CSOs can benefit from access to different online communities interested in other CSOs 
Practical Tips: 
• 
Retweet/Share content from other CSOs giving them exposure within your online community. Your community will trust you more & other CSOs (with time) will reciprocate
CSO Founders & Management need to build and be more active on their personal Social Media profiles. People engage more with people than brands. 
Practical Tips: 
• 
Brand your background/cover images with your personal interests and with your CSO 
• 
Be active everyday and interact with others 
• 
Share content related to the Social Change that your CSO is advocating
CSO Founders & Management to interact regularly via Social Media with founders & management of other CSOs. 
Practical Tips: 
• 
Retweet/Share content of other CSO founders, especially content with calls to action 
• 
Use their event hashtags to help them spread the word and to raise awareness about your CSO to their online community
Organic reach via Social Media continues to decline meaning less people see what you post. You need Social Media ads to boost visibility. 
Practical Tips: 
• 
Factor ad budget in every grant application 
• 
Have a daily budget to boost visibility of your Social Media content. 
• 
Target your ads to your existing email database (FB/TW) 
• 
Use Lookalike Audiences to reach new people
On Sep 18, 2014 Facebook announced that it will place posts about trending topics and posts with fresh engagement higher in News Feed 
Practical Tips: 
• 
When (remotely) relevant to your objectives, share/create content related to trends 
• 
General Interest topics can also be used. The more relevant the CSO is to the online audience, the higher the engagement 
• 
Research “Real Time Marketing” for examples
Social Media users are more charitable than you might think 
Time & Attention: 
43% of users state that they have given 10+ hours to a charitable cause in past year 
Money: More than 70% surveyed said they've donated $100 or more during the past year

  • 6. • Civil Society Organizations in Lebanon are not taking advantage of the full capabilities of Social Media. • Having Social Media channels and being active on them is not enough to get their message heard, to grab the attention of the media, to get politicians to support them, to collaborate with other CSOs, and to grow their user base.
  • 7. • As of the first week of December 2013, Facebook has decreased the organic reach This means that less and less people see the Social Media posts of the CSOs. • CSOs have yet to change their old Social Media behaviors to react to the changing dynamic of the medium they are in. • Reach is one of many critical indicators that need to be regularly addressed and closely monitored by CSOs if they are to be heard

  • 9. Interact with other CSOs on a daily basis. All CSOs can benefit from access to different online communities interested in other CSOs Practical Tips: • Retweet/Share content from other CSOs giving them exposure within your online community. Your community will trust you more & other CSOs (with time) will reciprocate
  • 10. CSO Founders & Management need to build and be more active on their personal Social Media profiles. People engage more with people than brands. Practical Tips: • Brand your background/cover images with your personal interests and with your CSO • Be active everyday and interact with others • Share content related to the Social Change that your CSO is advocating
  • 11. CSO Founders & Management to interact regularly via Social Media with founders & management of other CSOs. Practical Tips: • Retweet/Share content of other CSO founders, especially content with calls to action • Use their event hashtags to help them spread the word and to raise awareness about your CSO to their online community
  • 12. Organic reach via Social Media continues to decline meaning less people see what you post. You need Social Media ads to boost visibility. Practical Tips: • Factor ad budget in every grant application • Have a daily budget to boost visibility of your Social Media content. • Target your ads to your existing email database (FB/TW) • Use Lookalike Audiences to reach new people

On Sep 18, 2014 Facebook announced that it will place posts about trending topics and posts with fresh engagement higher in News Feed Practical Tips: • When (remotely) relevant to your objectives, share/create content related to trends • General Interest topics can also be used. The more relevant the CSO is to the online audience, the higher the engagement • Research “Real Time Marketing” for examples
