The document summarizes the 1997 film Titanic, directed by James Cameron. It describes the main characters played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who fall in love on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. Their forbidden romance is set against the backdrop of the Titanic's collision with an iceberg on April 14, 1912, which results in the catastrophic sinking of the ship. The film explores the themes of love transcending class division and being everlasting, even in the face of disaster. It leaves the ending ambiguous as to whether the elderly Rose, who tells the story, is dreaming or has died as she is reunited with Jack on the grand staircase.

Bronze Memorial Plaques - How Effective Layout and Balanced Design Improves R...Impact Architectural Signs
Impact Signs created bronze plaques for the John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park. Memorial Park that tell the story of the Tulsa Race Riots of 1921.
“Perhaps the first thing we need to do as a nation and as individual members of society is confront our past and see it for what it is, " John Hope Franklin. The story told in the bronze plaques helps to do that. It creates a permanent historical display, to tell the story, and help to acknowledge the truth.
We worked under the guidance of world renowned bronze sculptor, Ed Dwight. The plaques tell the detailed histroy of the event, in story format. This presentations shows the use typography, balanced plaque design and layout, for enhanced readability and flow.

Ballads were the original memes.
This presentation traces the formal and stylistic developments of the Robin Hood ballads - folk songs that provide the raw material for the legend of the Prince of Thieves - from the earliest evidence of these stories left in 13th- and 14th-century descriptions of May Day festivities, to late Medieval manuscript copies of ballads, through the introduction of print in the 16th century and into a printed broadside-ballad boom in the 17th century. Pay attention to the way the form of the poems (rhyme patterns, meter, and other linguistic conventions) changes over time and in relation to the evolving story. Does the medium in which the story is told effect the story itself?

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. TITANIC
A. Characters
Leonardo Dicaprio as Jack Dawson was a 20-year-old artist from Chippewa Falls,
Wisconsin. Orphaned at the age of 15, he worked a variety of jobs. After a stint as a
logger, he came to Santa Monica, California, where he drew portraits on the pier for 10
cents apiece. Working his way from place to place on tramp steamers and similar
accommodations, he went to Paris where he studied art. Subsequently, he found himself
able to return to his native land in the grandest style possible for one with no money:
sailing on Titanic on a ticket he won in a poker game.
Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater born to one of the very best families in
Philadelphia, was a mere 17 years old when she became engaged to Caledon Hockley.
Intelligent, poised, and beautiful, Rose had been schooled since childhood to be
everything a young woman of society was expected to be. Rose's betrothal to Hockley,
heir to a Pittsburgh steel fortune, was considered an admirable catch, a perfect pairing of
wealth and social position. Yet her spirit rebelled against the rigid confines and
expectations of Edwardian society controlling her destiny.
Billy Zane as Caledon Hockley was the 30-year-old scion of a wealthy Pittsburgh steel
family. Handsome, self-confident, rich beyond meaning, he aspired to sophistication and
insisted on propriety. He found in Rose DeWitt Bukater a suitable young woman to fill
the role of wife in his aristocratic future, and he presented her to his peers with the pride
of ownership, basking in others' reaction to her beauty and her pedigree. As a wedding
present for her, he purchased one of the largest and most valuable diamonds in the world,
the legendary blue stone once worn by Louis XVI known as the Coeur de la Mer - the
Heart of the Ocean.
Kathy Bates as Mrs. Margaret "Molly" Brown was the wife of a Colorado mining
millionaire. Intelligent though self-taught -- she spoke several languages -- she was a
plain-spoken woman without background in high society, who was generally shunned by
the socialites of Denver. When Titanic was sinking, she was evacuated in lifeboat #6,
under the command of Quartermaster Hichens. Having been at the wheel of Titanic when
she struck the iceberg, Hichens was completely unnerved and directed the boat away
from the sinking ship as fast as possible. He was terrified that they would be swamped by
the suction as the ship went down, or overwhelmed by swimmers desperate to be saved.
Mrs. Brown and several more women wanted to return to help save others, but they were
overruled by Hichens' bullying and by the frightened silence of the majority of the
lifeboat's passengers. As Hichens' fears became less and less rational, Mrs. Brown
effectively took over command of the boat and persuaded the women to help with the
rowing. Her heroism and selflessness during the disaster was much talked about
afterwards and earned her the moniker "The Unsinkable Molly Brown."
Frances Fisher as Ruth DeWitt Bukater mother of Rose, was a society empress from one
of the most socially prominent families in Philadelphia. After the death of her husband,
her family fell on hard times, but she was determined to achieve financial salvation
through her daughter's marriage to Caledon Hockley. A woman who ruled her household
with an iron wills, she was intolerant of Rose's rebellious nature, and found in Cal an ally
in her efforts to control Rose.
3. Bernard Hill as Captain Edward J. Smith joined White Star Line in 1880 and remained
with the company for the rest of his life. Popular with his crews as well as his passengers,
Smith was widely regarded as a charming, personable officer. He became the captain of
choice for many of the rich and powerful in the transatlantic set, earning the nickname
"the millionaire's captain." Through most of his long career, he had never been involved,
as he recounted in 1907, "in an accident of any sort worth speaking about. I never saw a
wreck and have never been wrecked, nor was I ever in any predicament that threatened to
end in disaster of any sort." White Star had made it virtually a tradition to have Smith in
command on the maiden voyages of its important ships. At the conclusion of Titanic's
maiden voyage, Captain Smith was scheduled to retire in glory.
Jonathan Hyde as J. Bruce Ismay the 50-year-old Managing Director of White Star Line,
was one of the most powerful men in the shipping industry. Son of Thomas H. Ismay,
who founded the line in 1869, Joseph Bruce Ismay had ascended to the management of
the company with his brothers by the turn of the century. In 1902, the American financier
J. Pierpont Morgan, who was buying shipping companies for his enormous International
Mercantile Marine (IMM) trust, negotiated the purchase of White Star Line. J. Bruce
Ismay alone of his family remained with the company. In 1907, in response to the
competition posed by rival Cunard Line's new mammoth liners Lusitania and Mauretania,
Ismay conceived of a trio of even larger, grander and more luxuriant ships that would re-
assert White Star's dominance of the lucrative and prestigious transatlantic trade. Titanic
was the second of this trio. Ismay sailed on her maiden voyage, confident that Titanic
represented the triumph of his career.
David Warner as Spicer Lovejoy was valet and bodyguard to Caledon Hockley. An ex-
Pinkerton with a background in railroad security, his job was to keep Cal out of trouble
and protect the family name. In the course of his duties, he was ready to use whatever
means necessary, including the threat of physical force, to prevent anyone from
interfering with his employer.
Victor Garber as Thomas Andrews then aged 39, was the Managing Director of Harland
& Wolff Shipyards, nephew of Lord Pirrie (Harland & Wolff's chairman), and one of
Titanic's main designers. A tireless workaholic, he had supervised every detail of the
ship's construction and outfitting, and was the world's foremost expert on every aspect of
her. He sailed on Titanic with a hand-picked team of seven experts, the Harland & Wolff
"guarantee group," who spent most of the voyage trouble-shooting last-minute problems
and perfecting the finishing of this, the company's greatest creation. Andrews himself
brought along Titanic's complete blue-prints, and worked practically non-stop on the
voyage, carrying a notebook everywhere, making notes about imperfections and ideas for
improvements. He was, for instance, concerned that the coat-hooks were attached to the
walls with an unsightly number of screws, which he intended to change.
Danny Nuccy as Fabrizio De Rossi was a young Italian, about 20, with dreams of finding
success and happiness in America. A good friend of Jack Dawson's, he was playing poker
in a Southampton pub on the morning of April 10, 1912, with Jack and two brothers from
Sweden. At 11:55 AM, Jack won the last hand, cleaning out the Swedes of everything
including two third class tickets to New York on Titanic... which was casting off in
precisely 5 minutes He and Jack considered themselves the luckiest men in the world.

5. TITANIC
Beginning with treasure hunter Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) searching the Titanic wreck
for the fabled necklace named the Heart of the Ocean, the Titanic movie features actual footage
of the wreckage. After recovering a safe that was thought to belong to first class passenger
Caledon ‘Cal’ Hockley, played by Billy Zane, Lovett hopes to find the Heart of the Ocean
contained within. He finds nothing but soggy bank statements and a sketch of a naked woman
wearing the necklace, and Lovett believes that he has hit a dead end.
A woman by the name of Rose Calvert (Gloria Stuart) sees Lovett on the news and
contacts him. Lovett is uninterested in what she has to say at first, but becomes intrigued when
she tells him that she is the woman in the drawing. After being flown in to tell her story, we learn
that Rose Calvert was once Rose DeWitt Bukater and was a first class passenger on the Titanic.
She beings telling her experience on the doomed vessel. The movie begins with drifter Jack
Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) winning third class tickets for the Titanic in a poker game. Him
and his friend Fabrizio catch the ship just as it is leaving. It also shows first class passenger Rose
DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslett), her mother Ruth (Frances Fisher) and her fiance Cal Hockley.
Rose is on the way to Philadelphia to marry Hockley, an arrangement made by her mother to
protect her status of wealth. Unhappy with this decision, Rose attempts to commit suicide by
throwing herself from the Titanic.
She is confronted by Dawson who convinces her to come up from the railing. Rose
invites Jack to dinner as thanks, and after Jack spirits her away to a third class evening of
dancing. Rose decides to decide her own future and asks Jack, who is an acclaimed artist to draw
her nude wearing only the Heart of the Ocean. The two then find their way to the cargo hold and
find a rich man’s car waiting for them. They proceed to make love in the back seat before the
ship hits an iceberg. As people begin boarding lifeboats, Jack is arrested and locked in the master
at arms’ office. Instead of boarding a lifeboat, Rose goes back to help Jack and the two must
fight for survival. Jack and Rose’s fiancé Cal finally convince her to board a lifeboat, and Cal
assures her that he has made arrangements to get both men off of the boat safely. Cal double
cross Jack and Rose decides to go back for him yet again despite her being urged to stay on the
lifeboat. Rose finds Jack and Cal chases them into the flooded first-class dining room with a
pistol. Once they escape Cal, he returns to the deck and boards a lifeboat after pretending to look
after an abandoned child.
Rose and Jack go down with the ship and Jack helps her onto a door that can support the
weight of one person. While Jack is in the freezing water, they exchange loving words, and Jack
dies of hypothermia. Once aboard the Carpathia, Rose gives her name as Rose Dawson. She sees
Cal one more time frantically looking for her but hides her face in a blanket just as he looks in
her direction. Rose then proceeds to do everything that her and Jack promised to do together, and
lives her life. Back on Lovett’s ship, Rose walks to the side, produces the Heart of the Ocean and
tosses it overboard. In the last scene, Rose is met by Jack on the grand staircase of the Titanic,
they kiss and are applauded by those who were lost in the disaster. It isn’t known whether or not
she is dreaming or if she dies (Jack told her she would die in her bed as an old woman), and
James Cameron leaves this up to the viewer to decide.
