Context <ul><li>A major focus at MPPS is to improve teaching practice through PoLT and Developmental teaching . </li></ul><ul><li>My focus : to determine what would make students run to an Italian lesson. </li></ul><ul><li>To find discover my students interests, needs and learning styles </li></ul><ul><li>To develop a DP in line with MPPS whole school approach </li></ul>

What did you do? <ul><li>Brainstormed ideas to following questions using PMI chart then students completed individual survey and set future goals </li></ul><ul><li>Why do students study languages at primary school level? </li></ul><ul><li>What would students like to learn in Italian classes?   </li></ul><ul><li>How do they learn best- Gardner’s Multiple intelligences, Discovering your Smarts? </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  4. 5. <ul><li>Students are a valuable resource in informing me about my teaching practice and how best to adapt my practices to suit their needs </li></ul><ul><li>They were able to tell me what interested them and how they learnt best. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher enthusiasm and passion is fundamental to effective student engagement. </li></ul><ul><li>My students are now armed with a sense of purpose, direction and understand the importance of taking ownership and responsibility for their future learning. </li></ul>What did you learn?

What did you learn contd <ul><li>They confuse things that they don’t like with things that they think they are not good at. </li></ul><ul><li>Teaching and learning is about understanding your audience, determining what their needs, wants and interests are and engaging them effectively. </li></ul><ul><li>My future pedagogic skills will reflect this knowledge . </li></ul>
