UWM is expanding its degree path options through its UWM Flex program to better serve military students. The new programs include a RN to BSN for nurses, biomedical sciences and diagnostic imaging degrees, a BS in information science and technology, and an undergraduate certificate in professional and technical communication. UWM also aims to award more credits for prior learning through increasing credits given for basic military training by 50% and providing opportunities for 20% of enrolling military members to gain additional credits for other types of military education.

Editor's Notes
is an award winning (NUTN 2012) technology-enabled instructional approach developed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The U-Paceinstructional approach combines self-paced, mastery-based learning withinstructor-initiated Amplified Assistance in an online learning environment.
UW-Milwaukee seeks to better serve our active duty military and veteran students, and hasten their progress to degree completion, by expanding the number and types of academic credit that may be awarded based on appropriate prior military training and education. In this Phase III project UWM seeks to shift the institutional culture towards greater acceptance of awarding credit based on PLA to:
achieve at least a 50% increase in the number of PLA credits awarded for basic military training;
evaluate American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for use of other types of military education and training where appropriate; and,
offer at least 20% of enrolling military service members the opportunity to gain some additional credit for other types of military education/training beyond basic training.
