1. Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
1895- 1946

2. • Born in Hungary
• Born July 20, 1895
• Died November 24, 1946
• Studied law before serving in WW1, where he
was seriously injured.

3. • After the War he attended art school in
Hungary
• He left to go to Berlin in 1920
• In 1923, he replaced Johannes Itten as the
instructor for foundation courses at the
Bauhaus
• He was very much influenced by
Constructivism, and he was an advocate for
integrating technology and art

4. • He was an innovator in the fields of
photography, film-making, typography,
sculpture, painting, printmaking and industrial
design
• He had a huge influence on the students at
the Bauhaus, with his unique multimedia
teaching style
• In 1929 he resigned from the Bauhaus, and
became a freelance designer

5. • He moved to London after the Nazis came to
power in 1933
• While in London he unsuccessfully attempted
to form an English Bauhaus
• In 1937 he was invited to become the director
of the new Bauhaus in Chicago, which only
lasted one year due to lack of funding
• In 1939 he was the founding director of the
School of Design in Chicago, which still stands
today as the Institute of Design
• He died of Leukaemia on November 24 1946
