CCCs: Attention to an opportunity that is available for your PACT Sailors. The
submarine force is presently accepting volunteers into 9 of their 11 ratings for
various year groups. Most of these jobs require involve highly technical training
that is fully transferable to the civilian sector. The jobs that are not technical in
nature are typically service related jobs in very small divisions that are critical
to mission success and unit morale.

If the Sailor desires a set schedule and stability, he can volunteer for one of our
2-crew SSBN submarines and only possess the boat for half the year. The other
half of the year is spent in the homeport training for the next cycle. If the Sailor
wants to see ports and wants the stability of a 2-crew platform he can apply for
one of the 8 crews that serve on the SSGN submarine. These boats are

under the academic skills link. Navigation to OASC is also available at http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/dantes/ (must go via NKO to get free
access using password or CAC-PKI ID)

*** Avoid Tuition Assistance (TA) Problems with Some Helpful Advice *** To apply for TA go to this site using your CAC ID Card:
https://myeducation.netc.navy.mil/ Follow these guidelines to avoid TA delays or problems:
1) Keep your degree plan up to date. If you decide to change degree programs or schools then you must update your records by giving the
Navy an updated degree plan.
2) Course request must be on degree plan. This goes hand in hand with keeping your degree plan up to date. The course listed on your webTA
funding request must be listed on the degree plan. Carefully check your webTA request before you submit for command approval to be sure
that your course numbers/titles are correct and match the course listed on your degree plan.
3) Transfer Credit and Degree Plan. If you decide to take a course at a different school and transfer it to your home school (the school that will
issue your degree) to meet a degree requirement then be prepared to provide evidence to the VEC that the course you are going to take has
been approved by your home school as meeting a course requirement for your degree.
4) Always apply for TA BEFORE start date. The Navy will not process any webTA requests if the course has already started. No exceptions or
waivers on this policy.
5) Schools are ignorant about TA policy. NEVER rely on a school to provide you with information on Navy TA policy. Contact NCO or go to the
Navy College website if you have questions on Navy TA policies or rules. It’s not the school’s job to understand Navy TA policy and when they
try to advise Sailors on TA rules it usually ends up hurting the Sailor. Don’t let this happen to you!
4 COOL Recipe 4 Success in College, CLEP,
Certification, & Credentials While on Active Duty
One of the sea duty going command CVW-11 Sailor GMSN Cowan saved over $1,000 taking the CLEP Test & earning his Associate's in a year and
now 8 classes away from Bachelor's Degree. He will earn his Bachelors Degree soon with zero expense on tuition using TA in 2 years while in
CVW-11 starting with zero college. Over 50 CLEP College Courses you can take to earn you credits in a snap (It usually cost $97 per subject).
You can usually register online via Navy College sponsored school website. To register for CLEP, here is an example in NAS Lemoore
https://www.ccis.edu/nationwide/admissions/clepform.asp?Lemoore. But before that, the Navy even goes further by giving you a Free ONLINE
CLEP Study test through world-renowned PETERSON'S Study Guide. LOGIN via NKO to access the free guide then click:
http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/dod (or you can create an account & use it at home with your family at www.petersons.com/dantes)

I hope that GMSN Cowan not only inspire you to earn your college degree now - but also realize to take advantage some of the benefits that the
Navy have invested for us to use while we have time in our hands.

2. NCPACE Distance Learning (DL) - 100% free tuition exclusively for Sea Duty Command: Every term depends on command’s schedule and
usually take up to 90 days to complete on your own pace. You earn or take Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degree from some of the following
accredited colleges & university without using your Tuition Assistance or GI Bill (you only pay for the books & CD): Columbia College, Texas A&M,
Central Texas, Old Dominion, University of Oklahoma & more. There is also an NCPACE Instructor Led (IL) in most local base. A Sea Duty
command can initiate this program and take turn with other command to continue the program as coordinated by the local Navy College. One
great example is NAS Lemoore where CVW-11 Started in January and now on it’s 2nd term being run by VFA-86 & being held every month for all
Sailors in Lemoore area to earn Basic Skills for those who want to improve their ASVAB, earn a 6 unit credits on English / Math CLEP.

3. Navy COOL & USMAP: - Two staff member just earned a certification or credentials that are required into some of the job skills in the civilian
profession through Navy COOL. Visit www.cool.navy.mil and browse to dozens of certifications/credentials that you can earn either by: getting a
voucher from the Navy, completing an NKO Courses or DANTES Examination, submitting a package or paying a membership. This is open to
Enlisted, Officers & Navy DoD employees. Go to https://usmap.cnet.navy.mil/usmapss/ to register and start your certification with Department
of Labor by merely logging your hours daily. If you consistently do this 5x a week, you may get your certification in about 12-24 months
depending on the skills requirement. This is open only to Enlisted on their current rating.

4. Tuition Assistance & Post 911-GI Bill Top Up: Enroll to your selected online or campus accredited college or university by submitting a Tuition

1. If you haven't got your SAT/ACT, take it now to get the result prior to the mailing of the
package.
2. Start your online package as early as now. Go to HTTPS://WWW.STA-21.NAVY.MIL - for
application & also for more information.
3. Read the presentation and tools on our share drive.
4. Continue to take as many college or CLEP. This is more of an Educational Program than
Officers Program. Board looks at giving this type of "scholarship" to those who have potential
to complete the 3 year college prior to becoming an officer.
5. Submit your chit now - must be approved on Dept Head level by April 13 (keep this email to
get a reminder on 12 April).
6. See me today or this week if you need to know more about STA-21 or not so sure about it.
7. Here is the Navy Career Wise Suggested Timeline to ensure that your package goes well and

Navigation to OASC is also available at http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/dantes/ (must go via NKO to get free access using password or CAC-PKI ID) *** Avoid Tuition Assistance (TA) Problems with Some Helpful Advice *** To apply for TA go to this site using your CAC ID Card: https://myeducation.netc.navy.mil/ Follow these guidelines to avoid TA delays or problems: 1) Keep your degree plan up to date. If you decide to change degree programs or schools then you must update your records by giving the Navy an updated degree plan. 2) Course request must be on degree plan. This goes hand in hand with keeping your degree plan up to date. The course listed on your webTA funding request must be listed on the degree plan. Carefully check your webTA request before you submit for command approval to be sure that your course numbers/titles are correct and match the course listed on your degree plan. 3) Transfer Credit and Degree Plan. If you decide to take a course at a different school and transfer it to your home school (the school that will issue your degree) to meet a degree requirement then be prepared to provide evidence to the VEC that the course you are going to take has been approved by your home school as meeting a course requirement for your degree. 4) Always apply for TA BEFORE start date. The Navy will not process any webTA requests if the course has already started. No exceptions or waivers on this policy. 5) Schools are ignorant about TA policy. NEVER rely on a school to provide you with information on Navy TA policy. Contact NCO or go to the Navy College website if you have questions on Navy TA policies or rules. It’s not the school’s job to understand Navy TA policy and when they try to advise Sailors on TA rules it usually ends up hurting the Sailor. Don’t let this happen to you!
