3. Optimized Distribution
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• Pick document based
upon allocations per store
with the pick position at
the Origin CFS.
• Cartons are then picked
and brought back to
centralized packing area.
4. Optimized Distribution
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• Shipping cartons are built
based on need.
• Cartons sorted based on
packing the cartons.
• Packer scans the barcode
on the pick document.
5. Optimized Distribution
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• System shows the
packer the cartons to
pack and how to pack
them.
• Packer scans the
carton license plate
and places it into the
shipping carton.
8. Optimized Distribution Project
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• The process
continues until the
carton is completed.
A packing list is then
printed and inserted.
9. Optimized Distribution
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• Once the carton is
packed, it will be
cut down if needed.
• This reduces the
cubic dimensions
and the dim weight.
10. Optimized Distribution
System “Thinks” While Workers Work
• Packer closes the carton
in the system.
• System prints out a CFS
license plate that will be
used to scan the package
into the container, and a
parcel shipping label.
• The carton is sealed,
labeled and ready to be
shipped.

An actual Optimization Solution that computed
how to pack 21 units into 2 packages
12. Package Two
An actual Optimization Solution that computed
how to pack 21 units into 2 packages
13. Results of Optimization
• 40% freight savings when compared to
delivering individual packages
• 50% corrugated savings as compared to
manual packing without optimization
• Fewer packages per order means less
labor to the store receiving the shipment
and merchandise arriving together
14. D/C Bypass and LMA (last minute allocating)
• Serialize all cartons in the container at origin
• Delay allocating where the cartons are to be delivered
• Just prior to stripping the container at destination,
allocate the cargo in the container
• As the cargo is stripped, the origin barcodes are
scanned
• Each time a carton is scanned a delivery label is printed
and applied to the carton
• Cartons are then handed off to the small parcel carrier
for final delivery or directed to a zone skip trailer.
