The document discusses the history and initiatives of the Greening the Campus project at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2005 to 2009. It began as a bottom-up process to introduce more sustainable practices on campus, including organic food options and reducing paper usage. Over time it expanded to include working groups focused on energy/water, materials, mobility, and catering. The project also collaborated with external partners and aimed to integrate sustainability into research, education, and campus operations.

2. Students as stakeholders “ What is your perspective on the environmental sustainability of RSM?” How hard is it to buy printers that allow double printing! It saves a load of money in paper! And why are all the computers in the computer building constantly running? [...] and these are not even things that cost RSM money, by implementing environmental improvements RSM SAVES money. Pretty strange for a department specialised in Business Administration. Not sustainable enough. Even not the Business Society Management department! Large amounts of paper are used for the students. Master students receive lecture presentations with only 2 slides per page, they receive extensive readers and many articles, which are often printed one-sided. Certainly, not a sustainable environment. I do not think that RSM is really environmentally sustainable. If they are, they do not really show it. I think the university has a function of setting the example: be the right example for students! They will take over good initiatives in their future lives.

8. Greening RSM - Mission Statement We want to “practice what we preach” and add an operational dimension to our already existing commitment to sustainability in research and teaching. We strive to fulfil the expectations of our current and prospective students and join other universities in their efforts to improve their sustainability. We aim to remain attractive for our key corporate partners who are also active on greening their offices and operations and increase our appeal to potential new partners. We want to make the university or its schools rank first in rankings that evaluate sustainability, be it in research and teaching (Beyond Grey Pinstripes) or on an operational level. In short, we want to be widely renowned and recognized as the business school that walks its talk in the area of sustainable business practice.
