AUDIENCE RESEARCH – FAVOURITE GENRE
My group and I carried out audience research to see who our target
audience is and what kind of movie they want to see. We created a
survey via surverymonkey and sent a survey out to multiple people to
receive their opinions. We wanted to find out what the most popular
genres were. We found out that Comedy and Action were the most
popular, however as a group we decided not to go for either of them
because they were too commonly created and decided to create a
psychological thriller instead. Additionally, we asked what peoples’
favourite movie genre were and it seemed that thrillers were quite
frequently picked.
TARGET AUDIENCE
We asked a few questions to reveal who our target audience is so
that we could cater the movie for that group of people. We
asked about age as this is very important because it is the
decider of how the movie will be made and what we will
implement. Also, we found out that more females answered the
surveys as opposed to men, this showed us that women have a
bigger interest in movies. Our target audience would be for late
teenagers and adults in their mid 20s. We thought we could
appeal to the audience by adding a younger cast in the movie to
make the characters relatable.

Gender: Female
Occupation: Part-time employed
Psychographic Overview:
Attends university and works part time, earns

Goes to the cinema twice a month with friends

Demographic Overview:
Age: 15-18
Gender: Male
Occupation: None, living with parents
Psychographic Overview:
Goes to secondary school, likes hanging out with
friends
Rarely goes to the cinema, downloads torrents
Likes Romantic Comedies, dislikes Fantasy
AGE RATING FOR OUR PRODUCTION
After doing some thorough research into the BBFC ratings,
our group decided to pick 15. Primarily because we didn’t
aim to have excessive swearing and any sexual scenes
however we wanted mild profanity and a lot of violence
and gore. Also, we didn’t want to display any drugs in our
movie which makes 15 the perfect rating allowing the
average teenager to watch and enjoy.
