  5. 5. In 1992 there was no leadership working to help programs like Cabrini Connections get the resources needed to grow in every poverty neighborhood of the city and suburbs of Chicago. I created the Tutor/Mentor Connection (T/MC) in 1993 to fill this void. Chicago While I led a single tutor/mentor program in one zip code from 1975-2011... Pg. 5 Cabrini Connections Serves teens in the Cabrini- Green area of Chicago I was founder and leader from 1993-2011. Tutor/Mentor Connection has innovated uses of maps to support non profit program growth in all poverty areas of a city like Chicago. In 2011 the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC was created to support the growth and operation of T/MC type intermediaries in Chicago and other major cities of the US and the world. 20. 20. Read about Collective Impact and role of “backbone” organizations on Stanford Social Innovation Review: http://www.ssireview.org/articles/entry/collective_impact “Collective impact requires that funders support a long- term process of social change without identifying any particular solution in advance.” A backbone organization with a modest annual budget can support a collective impact initiative of several hundred organizations, magnifying the impact of millions or even billions of dollars in existing funding. Strive, for example, has a $1.5 million annual budget but is coordinating the efforts and increasing the effectiveness of organizations with combined budgets of $7 billion.” A Tutor/Mentor Connection is a “backbone” organization and is needed in every city in the world. T/MI seeks to help a T/MC grow in Chicago and other cities.
