The USA Freestyle Tour produces jet ski and hydroflight shows and competitions. It is led by Tommy Nuttall, known as "Typhoon Tommy", who performs daring aerial stunts on watercraft. Over 20 years, the tour has entertained hundreds of thousands at prestigious venues. The tour uses customized watercraft to perform interactive shows and competitions that promote sponsor brands.

Like the Flying Wallendas of circus fame, The USA Freestyle
Tour produced by Tommy Nuttall - aka “Typhoon Tommy” -
soar through the air like an acrobat and proceeds to execute
some of the most exciting and most dramatic aerial stunts that
one can imagine on jet propelled watercraft, jet platforms and
jet bikes. Call it “hydro-batics”, if you wish. It’s just spectacular.
Tommy and his aerialists are highly skilled performers who defy
gravity using hydro-jet propulsion to entertain fans assembled
on shore. It is not just a sport; it is an art. And at best, it can be
breathtaking.
Over the past two decades, Tommy and his USA Freestyle
team have performed exhibitions for hundreds of thousands of
spectators at some of the most prestigious aquatic venues, and
they have also participated in and hosted numerous
competitions. The team’s journey and list of awards and
accomplishments are truly impressive.

The Jet Skis used at USA freestyle events are high
performance custom watercraft that are 100% head-
turning. Brand logos can be placed on watercraft
above or below the bond-line or can be part of a team
decal kit, like below.
The USA Freestyle watercraft and flying devices are
staged in high traffic areas between shows. These
areas are often accessible to the general public for
photo opportunities.

Who is Typhoon Tommy?
The athletic foundation for Tommy’s aquatic career dates back to
high school where he was a 3-time regional wrestling champion
and a 1st Team All-American college wrestler.
“This sport is a lot like wrestling because I’m constantly fighting
the forces of gravity, momentum and weight. It’s a real
challenge.”
Tommy’s interest in jet skiing began 1989 when he watched a jet
skier doing tricks on the lake where his family had a cottage.
When he asked if he could have a ride, the guy turned him down.
Tommy got so upset that he decided that he had to get a jet ski of
his own. He saved up $7,000 and bought a 650 cc Kawasaki and
trailer and began learning the craft. Soon after, he entered his
first competition and placed dead last. He was completely
deflated. But it only motivated him to work harder. Some months
later, better prepared, he competed again and placed 1st. He was
on his way.
In 1991, Tommy began racing on the IJSBA and APBA regional
and national jet ski freestyle and racing tours. The following year
he took 1st place in the “Great Lakes Tour” in both categories in
1992. Tommy turned Pro in 1993 and competed in the Midwest
Tour where he took 1st place in freestyle. In 1994, he won the
APBA North Continental pro freestyle championship. Then in
1995, Sea World took notice and gave him a call. A big door
opened.

Sea World was impressed with Tommy’s skills and showmanship.
They offered him the starring roll in their “Baywatch” freestyle stunt
show. It was the catalyst that led him into the entertainment
business. He never looked back.
While at Sea World, famed announcer, Morgan Lund, began
introducing him as “Typhoon Tommy” to describe the typhoon-like
spray of energy emanating from Tommy’s jet ski machines. The
name caught on and he later turned it into a company and brand.
When reflecting on his many performances across the country and
around the world, Tommy was asked what aspect of aquatic
acrobatics appeals to him and drives him the most. He said,
“The physical and emotional rush from doing all those tricks while
riding these devices is totally amazing. There’s no feeling like it.”

After his days a Sea World and Six Flags Tommy formed his own company called “Jet Ski Shows”, which
later became the USA Freestyle Tour and began producing dramatic water shows and competitions of his
own for festivals, regattas, boat races, and theme parks. From “PNC Roar on the River” to “GM Detroit River
Days” to “Extreme Water Shows” overseas to the “Red Bull Flugtag”, Typhoon Tommy has entertained
millions of devoted fans.
In 2013, new technology brought a major transformation to aquatic acrobatic shows with the inventions of the
Flyboard and the Jetavator. These two devices are powered by pressure hoses that pump water to the
device at high speed, allowing the stunt artists to propel themselves two stories upward and hover over the
water. It’s called “hydro-flight’ and Tommy says that the feeling is exhilarating freedom.
“You feel free like a bird. It’s absolute freedom as you hover up and down, forward and backward, twisting
and turning with enormous power under your feet from the jet nozzles under the device. It’s exhilarating. It’s
like riding a roller coaster at Cedar Point. It’s a real crowd pleaser.”
“Typhoon Tommy” is currently preparing more competitions and shows with more awe-inspiring tricks as well
as creating more competitions that aspiring performers can participate in. The hallmarks of Tommy’s shows
are excitement, energy, intensity, and acrobatics. It’s full-out power. His popular slogan “Boom to the X
power” says it all.
