The presentation briefly introduces the concept of, and the current and future needs for climate change adaptation in Northern Europe. The presentation goes on to summaries the activities and outputs of the Clim-ATIC, a Northern Periphery Programme funded project supporting climate change adaptation by a number of communities in 5 counties; Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Greenland from January 2008 to February 2011. - Athabasca Glacier. It is the most visited glacier in North America and I can see why. It is impressive. Thanks to the Rocky Mountain
- The consequences of climate change are felt at the local level and adaptation predominantly takes place locally. However the current processes for adaptation are linked to regional, national and international events and policies. Communities can be more responsive as individuals, small groups and small businesses if supported politically or financially. Cumulatively many small adaptations are more resilient in the face of uncertainty that large scale adaptations.
- All project regions will be involved in this work package with activities coordinated by the regional lead partners. At a local level, community organisations or municipalities participating in the project will help coordinate local activities.
