Kolkata (or “Calcutta”), India. Being the first five-star
hotel in Salt Lake City, it is also acclaimed as one of
Kolkata‟s favorites. The hotel creates the feel of a private
cocoon away from the complexities of modern living
without giving up any of its luxuries.
 Saddled between Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport
and Howrah Railway Station which lie just 11 km (7
miles) to either side, Hyatt Regency Kolkata enjoys a
prime location near the city‟s IT hub and is a preferred

Interview with the
director of H.R

 One has to lead by examples- have proper domain
knowledge over your area.
 One has to remain accessible at all times
 You can‟t earn respect by bossing over them but by
your action.
How to motivate one‟s
subordinates

 Build up a rapport with your subordinates.
 Organize informal gathering like picnics, dinners
get-togethers etc.
 Talk about other things besides official work.
 If anyone asks for suggestions to solve their personal
problems then only help them out
How can one motivate
others

 Always change your approach and techniques for
motivating others depending upon situation and
circumstances.eg: if someone is depressed one
shouldn‟t ask direct questions, it often has a
tendency to „boomerang‟.
 Remember the mantra- always keep your employees
happy.
Use of techniques for
motivation

 First of all call him/her and inform him/her the
reason for it in private.
 Explain the work process again and take a feedback
as to what is the problem
 Try to answer all their queries and be encouraging
 However even after repeated warnings if no
improvement is seen then very politely inform them
if they deem themselves not fit for the current
designation then the time has come for them to part
ways.
How to deal with non
performers

 In his 13 year carrier Mr. Bannerjee has found the
techniques which he uses to be most optimal, barring
a few exceptions .
Any constraints on
using these techniques

 On a scale of 10 he gives it a 10 in relation to
importance as without teamwork nothing can be
accomplished. It is not possible to run the
department on his own. 'A H.R by himself cannot
accomplish anything without the help of his team
members‟ said Mr. Banerjee.
Importance of teamwork

 Pays according to the Industry‟s standard.
 It‟s a private organization , he cannot pay that
amount of salary where in he is not earning that
much of revenue.
 If he is not able to pay according to industry‟s
standard then he may not be able to get good man
power and talents for the organization.
Compensation paid to
the subordinates

 According to Mr. Banerjee, encouragement is directly
related to nature. It depends on a person‟s approach
and mentality towards life.
 If he does similar things and activities for his
subordinates, that can be monotonous.
 Depending on the situation, time and nature he
changes his techniques to encourage his
subordinates.
Changes in Techniques
of Encouragement

 He will speak to those persons who are not
comfortable working with each other.
 He will find out the reason behind their
unhappiness.
 If the reason is personal then he will advise them not
to bring their personal matters into their professional
life.
 He can transfer them to other departments where
they will not be working together. In this way he will
tackle the situation.
Handling problems in a
group

 Communication is the most important aspect in this
kind of service oriented business. If there is a
communication gap then the organization will not be
able to survive.
 A proper communication channel should always be
present between a person who is at the entry level or
at the top level.
 The employees should know what is happening
inside the company as well as the position of the
company in the market.
Importance of
Communication

 This will bring confidence in them and they will feel
that they are a part of this organization.
 They may feel alienated from the organization if
there is an obstacle in communication with the
higher authorities.
 In this situation their productivity may go down and
they may not perform well. If they don‟t perform
well your organization will lose the grip in the
market.
Importance of
Communication

DIFFERENT SITUATIONS? IF YES, HOW? As said earlier, no fixed
ways of motivation is followed. It all depends on the situation.
 IN YOUR GROUP IF ANY MEMBER DOESN‟T OR CAN‟T
