of their potential operation on the Ukrainian natural stone market. The report focuses on the analysis of the dimension
stone market in Ukraine and does not comprise information on crushed stone market.
Dimension stone consists of rough stone and quarried blocks of ingenious, sedimentary and metamorphic rock,
including granite and similar rocks, marble, sandstone and slate.
Market data and analytics are derived from primary and secondary research. Company profiles are mostly

1. PRODUCTION AND MARKET TURNOVER
In 2010 the estimated production volume of the of dimension stone by the Ukrainian companies amounts of
approximately 276,9 thousand tons. The assessment of precise figures of production and use of dimension stone in
Ukraine is more complex than assessing exports/imports mainly because the pool of Ukrainian producers consists of
numerous small firms among the 120 quarry operators that produce stone from about 150 active and occasionally active
quarries in Ukraine. The market assessment figures presented in the report are generally considered by operating
companies to be an accurate reflection of the volumes of stone produced in Ukraine.
In the total dimension stone production in 2010, gabbro reached 47 % was, granite - to 41 %, labradorite - 8 % ,
basalt -2 % , and sandstone amounted to around 1,3 %..

The table 1.2 and chart 1.2 does not include the volume of rough blocks that have been exported from Ukraine in 2010,
which at that period equaled nearly 81,3 thousand tons.

1.4 Turnover and consumption of natural stone
 The monetary value of the Ukrainian market of dimension natural stone at the retail level has totaled to nearly
155.00 million USD in 2010.
 Natural stone market in Kiev region in 2010 was estimated at approximately 75.00 million USD.
Imported stone products in Ukraine continue satisfying general demand for stone interiors at the commercial and
residential sites. Worktops made from granite and marble, marble bathrooms, stone-tiled wetrooms and limestone
floors remain the most popular stone products on the market.
Domestic stone finds its most extensive application in exteriors decoration and stone monuments industry. It is used
predominantly for cladding new builds, paving, kerbing, wall lining, as well as for landscaping designs and in some
spheres of residential construction.
If the use of stone material for construction was influenced by general economic crisis throughout 2009-2010, and a
severe decline in construction industry, the monuments industry remained stable, being much less affected by the
general economic crisis. According to our estimations, in 2010 the overall value of monument sector amounted to
approximately 45 million US dollars, and its share reached about 29% in the total annual dimension stone turnover.
