• From 1875 to 1925, the number of hospitals in the U.S.
grew just over 170 to around 7,000 and the number of
hospital beds increased from 35,000 to 860,0001
• In the early days, healthcare administrators were called
superintendents and many were actually nurses who had
simply taken on the role 2
• By 1916, over 50% of the members of the American
Hospital Association were graduate nurses 3

13. AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
• I am a good candidate to become a healthcare administrator
because I have the characteristics of a strong leader, I also
understand that this will not be an easy profession
• Health administration can be a very stressful job and I am willing
to put the work in and dedicate my time to make sure that the
facility is ran properly
• I also believe I am a good candidate because I am a people
person and, although I will be working independently it is also
important to make sure that the staff trusts in my ability to be
successful
