4. ABOUT CHERIYAL PAINTING:
The Cheriyal paintings represent a distinct local invention, based
mainly on local traditions. The Nakashis are the artists of Telangana
and the scrolls constitute a key element of the social and cultural
setting of Telangana.
ORIGIN OF CHERIYAL ART:
These paintings were mostly confined to Cheriyal village, and hence
called Cheriyal scrolls.
PRESENT SCENARIO:
Due to its unique fashion and traditional features, recent Cheriyal
paintings have received the GI (Geographical Indication) label. Few
of the closest artists can retain their colour through this precise
technique. Showing pictures of singles (instead of solid scrolls) is
said to decorate the walls.
PRODUCT BREIF:
These scrolls are written in narrative form, similar to movies or
comics, depicting stories from Indian mythology, and are closely
related to Puranas and epic short stories.
5. The common themes are from the Krishna Leela, Ramayana,
Mahabharata, Shiva Puranam, Markandeya Puranam interspersed
with the ballads and folk-stories of communities like Gauda, Madiga
and so on.
6. PRODUCT PROPOSAL:
The art which i have chosen is cheriyal art it is a scroll painting.
so i was thinking to make a painting that narrating village culture.
TOOLS AND RAW MATERIALS:
canvas (s ready to be painted upon)
brushes (A set of polyester haired brushes, used in modern age
for painting purpose)
colors(natural or acrylic colors like red, blue,yellow,white and
black etc)
scissor ( used in cutting the canvas of required dimensions, for
painting.)
scale ( used to measure the canvas and to put accurate
horizontal and vertical lines)
7. PROCESS OF CHERIYAL ART:
Once the canvas and the colors are
ready, Cheriyal painting artist starts with
a very light outline with a graphite on
the canvas of whatever the scene he
has to depict in the scroll
then fills the color to the background in
bright red but excluding the outlines
which has drawn.
then fills the basic colors with thick brush
(which is numbered in the range of 3 to 12)
onto the characters and allows it for drying
then enhances the details such
as jewels, hairlines, eyes with
much finer brush strokes.
After the scene is depicted he adds attractive border to
the complete painting, which are decorated with flowers
and leafs with the finer brush strokes.
By this, it completes the process of painting and it is
usually rolled and stored. The one which depicts single
scene and are of much smaller size are framed.
