What is Git? What does it do, how does it work, how does it fit into my workflow? If you've ever wondered about the answers to any of those things, this session is designed for you, my friend. Starting with the assumption of no prior knowledge of Git or even of version control, we'll cover the technology at a theoretical level, its manifestation in your projects in the physical level, and your development workflow at the practical level - by which time you'll be ready to step out into the world, secure in your knowledge of what the heck Git is, and ready to use it in your projects - and you'll marvel at how you ever worked without it.

Docker containers add portability but can also introduce complexity into your environment. In this session learn about why monitoring your container environment is essential to maintaining service reliability, and how Splunk software can help you monitor different layers of infrastructure running in a Docker environment, including third-party tools, instances, and custom code. Learn how to use Splunk software to collect, search and correlate container data with other infrastructure data for better service context, root cause monitoring and reporting. Additionally, receive introduction to the product integrations between Splunk and Docker such as the Splunk Logging Driver, Splunk Forwarder, and Splunk Logging Libraries.

Break -> inspect -> fix is the Ops workflow for infrastructure stacks of the past. Distributed infrastructure and applications claim to be the new generation, but why is it so much more painful to maintain and troubleshoot them? Much of the pain comes from outdated operational models relying on reactive or, worse yet, manual monitoring and Ops. This talk lays out a proactive Ops model for container infrastructure. By focusing on event monitoring, infrastructure state monitoring, trend analysis, and distributed log collection, a proactive Ops model delivers observability for distributed apps that was not possible before. Using real-world examples from Swarm and Kubernetes, we'll demonstrate the tools used and how we relieve Ops pain in container orchestration.

The MySQL world is full of tradeoffs and choosing a High Availability (HA) solution is no exception. This session aims to look at all of the alternatives in an unbiased nature. While the landscape will be covered, including but not limited to MySQL replication, MHA, DRBD, Galera Cluster, etc. the focus of the talk will be what is recommended for today, and what to look out for. Thus, this will include extensive deep-dive coverage of ProxySQL, semi-sync replication, Orchestrator, MySQL Router, and Galera Cluster variants like Percona XtraDB Cluster and MariaDB Galera Cluster. I will also touch on group replication. Learn how we do this for our nearly 4000+ customers!

Kubernetes is changing the game in the data centre, but also in the monitoring and troubleshooting landscape. Static tools and vertically scalable TSDBs are no longer fit for the job. Large-scale dynamic infrastructures require scalable dynamic monitoring. This talk presents how the Elastic Stack collects logs, metrics, and APM traces from the applications running in Kubernetes: – Collect application logs, metrics and enhance them with Kubernetes metadata – Collect application metrics from Prometheus endpoints – Collect Kubernetes metrics – Collect application performance traces (APM) – Autodiscover new pods and monitor them based on their type – Control the monitoring via Kubernetes annotations – Use Kibana as a single looking glass to visualize the collected data

This talk will present an architecture developed to investigate the interaction with and between animals. The architecture allows online processing of multimedia streams and the generation, storing and visualizing of events using feature extraction. It allows biologists to analyze the events by monitoring live or by replaying streams through a web interface Docker swarm is the central component of the architecture and serves as infrastructure for stream processing, event generation, event processing and visualization. The main entry point for users is a web interface that spins up one container per user and allows independent replay of streams. This talk will focus on the architecture and on technical details concerning its implementation as well as how docker is utilized to process, store and visualize events. Some time will be spent explaining details about custom made docker solutions.

Although this scenario seems quite common nowadays, a lot of software companies are not ready to tackle this problem.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.
