The purpose of this research is to understand which Flexible & Distributed Learning (FDL) techniques generated positive student engagement. The aim of the research was to inform the development of the module for future iterations. The objectives of the research are to: * Understand which FDL techniques derived positive student engagement. * Explore other possible FDL techniques that may be appropriate for the module. * Identify which FDL techniques may be transferrable to other modules.

ABSTRACT: The need to make instructional delivery suitable to students learning styles for maximum learning outcomes is of great concern all over the world. This study therefore investigated the effects of 4-modes of learning styles on students’ learning outcomes in peace education. Using two models of cooperative learning strategies and conventional method of teaching in 3-intact classes of a population of 99 students and testing three null-hypotheses which proved non-significant in effect; it was discovered that the kinaesthetic learners performed better (f(3, 78) = 0.684, P>0.05) than the visual, auditory and reading learners in post-test mean achievement test. On the otherhand, the auditory students performed better in post-test mean attitude (F (3, 78) = 1.203, P>0.05) and post-test mean conflict resolution skill (F (3, 78) = 0.705, P>0.05) scores respectively. The learning styles alone accounted for between 26.01% and 43.56% of the variance in the students learning outcomes. It was therefore recommended that the teaching of peace education should always involve the use of kinaesthetic and auditory learning activities in the classroom.

Presently, no information could be obtained on the learning styles of distance learners as it has not been studied before. A study was carried out to identify the learning styles of distance learners at the Institute of Education Development, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. Felder’s Learning Styles Index (LSI) was used in the study. Results of the study were used to make comparison and correlation analyses between learning styles and academic achievement, programme of studies, gender and income. One hundred and sixty two students responded to the online questionnaire. The study showed that 35.5% students preferred visual learning style followed by 29.6% sensory, 14.2% active, 0% verbal and 2.5% intuitive. The male students were found dominant in visual learning style as compared to the females who were sensory dominant. The students who were majors in banking tended towards sensory style as compared to finance and business studies students who were inclined towards visual style. While the mass communication and public administration students dominated in visual and sensory styles. The higher income students preferred more visual style as compared to the middle income who were dominant in both visual and sensory. The higher achievers were found to be better disposed towards visual as compared to low achievers who were sensory dominant in style. The learning styles were not significantly different between genders, programme of studies and semesters. It was also found that there was no significant relationship between learning styles and academic achievement. This paper discusses in detail the implications of the various learning styles on students of distance mode of education.

The aims of this study are firstly to find out whether tasks that are designed based on the students’ learning style specification are compatible with students’ language achievements, and secondly to find out factors that might affect the language achievements and the learning styles. The research was undertaken in 6 private tertiary educations involving first year students who learn English as a compulsory subject at these institutions. A 40-item questionnaire adapted from Yufrizal (2007) was distrubuted to 380 students resulting students with four learning styles: communicative, concrete, authority oriented and analytic. One group repeated measures design was carried out in this research. The students are taught and tested in four different assignment adjusted to their learning styles. The results show that there is a congruency between students’ learning style and their designed tasks. Students with communicative learning style were more dominant in conversation and students with analytic learning style were more dominant in tasks that required language analytical skill. Furthermore, gender seemed to be an important factor that contribute to the students’ language achievement and learning styles.

Foster students' wonder and curiosity about infinity. The "mathematical concepts of the infinite can do much to engage and propel our thinking about God” Bradley & Howell, p. 56.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
