VolunteerMatch, Change.org, Beaconfire and little m media joined together for this special webinar to ask the question: What's next for social good?
SXSW Interactive is many things--parties, breakfast tacos, big ideas--but most of all it is an incredible community of designers, entrepreneurs and technologists who care about the future of the web. As that community has grown, so has the call from nonprofit leaders and socially conscious brands to infuse the SXSW experience with themes of how to harness the power of web technology to make the world a better place.
In 2014, the conversation around social good reached new heights both in terms of social media reach and in-person energy.
So...what now? How do we turn the social good conversations at SXSW into action and change in the real world? And how do we ensure that the social good conversation continues to be an integral part of the SXSW spirit and programming?
A special free webinar on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 tackled these very questions -- and so much more. Whether you attended SXSW or not, check out this all-star lineup from VolunteerMatch, Change.org, Beaconfire and little m media as they explore how we can make the excitement and energy of SXSW a part of our everyday lives.
If you care about the growth and impact of social good in your community and beyond, help us answer the question: "What's Next?"

Social Good @ sxsw 2014
ABOUT THE BEACON6th year of the Beacon Lounge . Started it at SxSW 2009 because we felt there was a growing community of people interested in or working for the greater good, and we wanted to create a space for them to network, share and relax. Over the last 6 years, The Beacon has played host to innnovativeSxSW attendees from some of the biggest social change organizations including: The Foundation Center, UNICEF, Charity:Water, .Org, The Ad Council, Humane Society of the United States, National Wildlife Federation, AARP, Feeding America, Nature Conservancy, Best Friends Animal Society, One Campaign, [Red], American Cancer Society, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Heifer International, ACLU, Points of Light Foundation, DonorsChoose, Kiva, Amnesty, and Share Our Strength among many others.Companies and organizations who have supported The Beacon and our social good mission have included: Blackbaud, Salsa Labs, Opportunity International, NTEN, Change.org, VolunteerMatch, Constant Contact, Colorado Health Foundation, CDS Global, PhotoPhilanthropy, Groupon, Small World Labs, FirstGiving, Web Visons, APCO Worldwide, Postano, gmmb, and Mozido. The Beacon was the 2nd most talked about lounge at SxSW 2013 according to Ad Week5,000 Beacon Lounge visitors in 2014For the Taco Karma lunch at SxSW 2014, sponsored by CDS Global, we asked people to “fork over their lunch money” to the Capital Area Food Bank. Over 2 hours, the lunch raised $250 for the Capital Area Food bank of Texas, which equals 650 meals for the local community. The generous sponsor then matched the donation, yielding a total of 1300 meals. We use this model for events in The Beacon every year, supporting both local and national organizations such as Sweet Relief Musicians fund, Lifeworks, American Red Cross, UNICEF Haitians Children’s Fund, Youthworks and Lifelong Friends Pet Adoptions. Over the last 6 years, the SxSW community has donated around 12K through Lunches & happy hours in the Beacon. At SxSW 2014 we hosted The Do Good Dialogues, a disruptive discussion series on the Beacon Stage where Brian Reich did 15 minute interviews with 16 key industry influencers including folks from Greenpeace, Change.org, DonorsChoose, Obama for America, Public Good Software, Huffington Post, Red Cross, AARP and The New York

SXSW’s commitment in the futurein 2014, we had 58 more sessions under Global Impact and Policy than we had in 2013 under the three categories we used that year as themes for this type of content (Community and Activism, Diversity and Emerging Markets and Government and Civic Engagement).
