WORKSHOP
GENERATING PROFITABLE BUSINESS
MODELS
PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION
In
rapidly
changing
technology
and
business
environments
Entrepreneurs
can
no
longer
build
successful
companies
based
on
existing,
traditional
or
old
business
models.
The
idea
that
what
worked
earlier
will
continue
to
work
forever
is
outmoded
and
dangerous
thinking.
Unique
and
creative
business
models
have
the
ability
to
change
an
entire
industry
and
to
make
new
entrants
hugely
successful
and
profitable
while
incumbents
die
a
slow
&
painful
death.
Sadly,
most
Malaysian
companies
don’t
understand
Business
Models
and
tend
to
follow
the
crowd
by
copying
or
adopting
the
business
models
of
their
closest
competitors
and
hence
fail
to
build
exciting
new
ventures.
New
Business
Models
are
critical
to
compete
more
successfully,
to
offer
better
value
and
to
gain
exceptional
margins
of
profitability.
This
is
an
Intensive
1-‐day
Program
created
to
help
you
improve
your
business
prospects
and
create
a
more
profitable
business
model.
It
as
an
action
oriented
program
that
involves
your
management
team
in
planning
for
the
future
success
of
your
business.
You
will
discover
new
&
unknown
business
models
and
you
may
just
uncover
a
model
that
will
help
your
business
to
create
a
powerful
new
direction
towards
more
profitable
growth.
It
will
also
help
you
to
create
a
business

that

PHASE
ONE
OF
THE
PROGRAM
PRE-WORKSHOP PREPARATION
Participants will be given a set of instructions and reading materials for them to prepare
themselves for the Program. These preparatory steps are important and are aimed at
helping the participants to identify their business models (BM) and also prepare them for the
concept of new BMs.
PHASE
TWO
OF
THE
PROGRAM
(1-‐DAY)
WORKSHOP
The
one day program is highly focused with material presentation and workshop sessions
not just on the theory and principles of business models but also strategic action sessions
and case examples for BM creation and execution using the concept of the ‘Business
Model Canvas’1. Participants will be expected to share and contribute their ideas and
thoughts via dialogues, sharing and discussions as well as group working.
In this one day session participants will:
• Learn how to describe, challenge, and design profitable business models
• Appreciate powerful examples of innovative business models, such as
Salesforce.com, Apple iPhone/iPod, Zipcars and many more
• Explore and prototype business models using design thinking and customer
development to boost future growth
Participants will also be required to prepare a business presentation on their BM strategies.
The following page provides a detailed program schedule for the 1-Day session.
