A.S.S.U.R.E. Method Assignment
A. I would first start by analyzing the students in the classroom and begin to mold my
lesson plan based on the age of the students I am going to teach holiday traditions to and the
background of the students so that I can adjust my focus of what holiday traditions I should plan
on teaching. Due to the fact that the students are only in the 4th grade I will hold back on the
amount of detail I go into so that I don’t overwhelm the students.
S. Students will identify holiday traditions and the cultures who celebrate them by observing a
PowerPoint, watching videos, and engaging in group activities by the end of the month with
100% accuracy.
U. I will first use the materials in a way that both informs the students of general holiday
traditions as well as the holiday traditions of other cultures like Jews, Black people and Latinos. I
will start off the utilization of materials by using a simple PowerPoint that gives a moderately
detailed overview of the different Holiday traditions of different cultures. Then I will show
videos that depict these holidays and explain what kind of people celebrate them, what kind of
activities are performed during these holidays, and the historical significance of these holidays.
By showing videos as well as a PowerPoint this will give the students an understanding that they
can both see and hear that’s not just my voice of words on a smart board.
2. R. I will require learner participation by dividing the class into groups of 4 and having a game
that pits each group against one another to see which group can match the most holidays to the
right culture that celebrates it. By having a game like this it will breed competition and will
entice the students to learn as much as they can so they can win. I will also have each student
write a short passage on what is their favorite holiday and how they and their family celebrates it.
E. Including the games mentioned previously that evaluate a student’s knowledge of the material
I will also have mini quizzes before each day of class that will cover the material covered the
previous day. These mini quiz questions will be used in a test at the end of the lesson that will
give a clear glimpse into the student’s knowledge.
