CSR Training Institute/UDS Launches in Ghana
Tamale, Ghana – The University for Development Studies (Ghana) and the CSR Training Institute
today signed an MOU to establish the CSR Training Institute Ghana. The Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) Training Institute, which will be based in UDS offices in Accra, will bring the
CSR Training Institute’s globally recognized suite of CSR training and support programming to
Ghana, making programs available in Accra and throughout the country.
The UDS CSR Training Institute will provide training and capacity development to support
development and industry in Ghana. The Institute will work with industry associations, individual
businesses, national, district and local governments, NGOs, communities, donor agencies and others
to develop and deliver a range of CSR training programs and support services. Programs will be
delivered in Accra as well as at UDS facilities and throughout Ghana.
The UDS CSR Training Institute will also integrate CSR teachings into existing UDS programs and
faculties by providing training and support to the UDS Faculty. In addition, students studying at the
Masters and Ph.D. levels will be able to integrate CSR specialization into the full range of existing
graduate programs. UDS students at all levels will have the opportunity to be exposed to CSR
training in current and emerging programs.
The Institute is partnering with the United Nations Global Compact, CSR Foundation of Ghana and
others to deliver a National Seminar on CSR Partnerships and Development on Sept 18th
as part of
the UN Global Compact’s CSR Celebrations in Ghana.
Wayne Dunn, President and Founder of the CSR Training Institute stated “We are very pleased to
partner with UDS to enhance our ability to deliver CSR programming and support to Ghana. UDS
is well-known as a premiere academic institution and its practical approach to integrating developing
into its full range of academic programming has made its graduates industry favourites for their
ability to hit the ground running when they start work. This practical, hands-on approach coupled
with how development permeates UDS’ full range of programming made them the ideal partner for
Ghana and the sub-region. The CSR Training Institute has been delivering CSR training in Ghana
and throughout Africa and we are eager to move forward with UDS and create an African based
institution. We look forward to learning from UDS’ experience, developing and delivering target
training and support programs and helping UDS to integrate CSR into existing programs.”
Speaking in Tamale UDS Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Yakubu said, “CSR has emerged as a
critical business and development issue for Ghana and indeed, globally. With Ghana preparing to
launch a National CSR Policy we are excited to bring world-class CSR training capacity to Ghana
and make it available to support Ghana’s development. Our programs will be targeted to support
the needs of business, communities, governments and development organizations at all levels. We
will offer programs ranging from short Certificate Courses to Graduate Diplomas and even Masters
and Ph.D. specializations. They will integrate with and complement our existing range of
programming.”

University for Development Studies
UDS is a result of the new thinking in Ghanaian higher education, which emphasizes the need for
universities to play a more active role in addressing problems of the society. The specific emphasis
on practically-oriented research and field-based training is aimed at contributing towards poverty
reduction in order to accelerate national development.
Due to its mandate, UDS is eminently suited to play an important role in establishing base for CSR
activities in Ghana, since it runs the community-technical interference, through its core activities,
such a Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP). Thus, UDS is able to translate theory
into practice and create awareness of stakeholders at different levels.
CSR Training Institute
The CSR Training Institute develops and delivers innovative training programs and advisory
services to help industry, organizations and governments create value where business meets society.
The programs are designed for people and organizations who want to make a difference.
Whether it is open programs where broad and diverse groups of participants learn from and with
each other, or bespoke programs to help organizations better understand and utilize CSR to achieve
their strategic objectives and mandates, the programs are strongly client focused and solution
oriented. The Institute has also pioneered a unique methodology that integrates bespoke training,
advisory services and mentorship.
The Institute is led by Wayne Dunn, Professor of Practice in CSR at McGill (N.B. the Institute is
independent from McGill) and works with a global network of world-class faculty and Fellows who
can bridge theory and practice, helping participants to utilize CSR strategically to support
organizational and societal goals and objectives.
CSR Training Institute programs have received extremely high satisfaction ratings (in a recent
program 80% rated it the Best Ever or one of the Top Three Executive Programs they have ever
taken) and global acclaim for their cutting edge work.
