1. now lets look at some tips on making your resume visually appealing too! So now you have some background information on the types of resumes
2. Tip 1: use white space *Create at least a one inch margin. *Leave some blank space between various sections of text. *Use white space to separate sections of information.
3. Tip 2: don’t use more than two different kinds of fonts *One font is all you really need. *If you use two make sure they compliment each other. *If using two use one for headings and one for body text.
4. Tip 3: Use bolding and italics sparingly *Avoid underlining- studies have shown it’s hard to read. *Try bolding job titles and italicizing subheadings. *Don’t use it too much or it looses its effect.
5. Tip 4: Use bullet points to emphasize skills and accomplishments *Bullets make it easier for employers to scan your resume quickly. *Bullets tend to grab the reader’s eye and lead it to key points. *Use them to highlight skills or accomplishments.

Tip 4: Be consistent *For example, if you use all caps to list the name of your most recent workplace then do the same to previous workplaces. *Another example is if you use bold and center the text of one heading do so for all of your headings. *Being consistent helps develop a reading pattern for potential employers that will help them follow your resume easily.

Blunder #3: Too short or too long *Don’t try to squeeze experience (if you have it) onto 1 page just to have a one page resume. *Don’t ramble on about irrelevant or redundant experiences. *No rule about appropriate length. *When writing ask yourself, “Will this statement help me land an interview?”

Blunder # 4: Using Personal Pronouns and articles *No mentions of “I” or “me” and minimal use of articles. *For example: I developed a new product that added $2 million in sales and increased the market segment’s gross margin by 12%. Should be changed to: Developed new product that added $2 million in sales and increased market’s segment’s gross margin by 12%.
14. Blunder # 5: Listing irrelevant information *Only include interests if they are related to the job. *Personal information such as date of birth, martial status, height and weight should not be listed unless you’re an entertainment professional or seeking employment outside the U.S.
15. Blunder # 6: Not including a summary section that makes an initial hard sell. *This is one of the greatest tools. *Should demonstrate the skill level and experiences directly related to the position.
