Things to bring:
1. Clothing like sweater, long & short sleeves shirts, long & short pants, plastic Warm bags…
(temperature can be freezing at times)
2. Torch light (make it can hang at your neck); or Head-lamp (better & convenient)
3. Rain coat & cap
4. Whistle (tied it with your climbing name tag when you get your climbing name tag)
5. Energy food (Chocolate bar, glucose,100 plus, power bar, power gel, bananas, raisins, nuts,
fresh apple…)
6. Enough drinking water… (but not too heavy until you can’t carry it)
7. Suitable climbing shoes & stockings
8. Gloves (not too big, fit your hand size and waterproof)
9. Wind breaker (mask)
10. Some medicine and first aid kit for your own need like headache tablets, sun-block, lip gloss,
plaster, leg-cramped gel/cream, counter pain…
11. Camera (optional)
12. Handkerchief (to wipe your sweat)
13. Any other stationary (optional) ; like pen & paper (can jot down Mat Saleh e-mail if you
want to be friends with them).
14. You are suggest to bring around RM 100 – RM 200 for your own expenses.
4. SPECIAL NOTE:
It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting
any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following aliment, it is highly
recommended that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation,
Arthritis, Heart Disease, Severe Anemia, Peptic Ulcers, Epileptic Fits, Obesity (Overweight),
Chronic Asthma, Muscular Cramps, Hepatitis (Jaundice); or any other disease which may
hamper the climber.
Tips on Mount Kinabalu Climb
 Kota Kinabalu to National Parks (1 ½ to 2 hours drive)
 All Climbers MUST be accompanied by certified Mountain Guide.
 All Climbers NOT ALLOWED proceeding without Mountain Guide.
 Mountain Guide has the FINAL SAY at all situation during trekking Mount Kinabalu or
STOP Climbers. Exp: Misbehavior and health condition (not suitable Asthma Condition)
 ALWAYS stay in a group.
 Never get reckless or try to be a show-off
 Stay where you are if you are lost
 If unavoidable, be extra careful with your steps during the wet spell
 Cover your nose (and mouth) with a scarf in windy condition on high ground
 Make extra sure your feet and hands are warm and dry during the final ascent
 When descending, try to walk sideway if you are feeling the pinch
 Do not bring valuable item
 Fit Climber trekking duration (4 to 4 ½ hrs) from Timpohon Gate to Mountain Hut
(Laban Rata)
 Not Fit Climber trekking duration (5 to 6 hrs) from Timpohon Gate to Mountain Hut
(Laban Rata)
 Bring extra Ringgit Cash (No Credit Card available at Laban Rata)
 Bring extra warm clothing’s, socks, gloves, cap, headlamp, walking stick, small backpack
with light weight, small bottle drinking water (sufficient water but not too much/heavy)
and camera.
 There may be Water and Power rationing during peak seasons.
 Laban Rata Restaurant OPEN 7.00am and CLOSE at 7.30pm (No Food available after
7.30pm)
 Convenient Counter available at Laban Rata (Selling Beer, Soft Drink, Chocolate Bar…
etc)
 Gunting Lagadan Hut (Non Heated Rooms) 100 meters away from Laban Rata
 Blanket, Bed, Bed Sheet, Extra Bed and Pillow provided.
 Last but not least... Safety Come First!!
5. ~ Believe It Or Not ~
1. Respect the mountain and 'nature spirits' even if you are a skeptic.
2. When you need to relieve yourself, tell the "nature spirits" (say aloud) that may be lying
on your path to give way to avoid offending them
3. Don't shout or make too much noise or you might disturb the "nature spirits"
4. When lost, talk aloud to the "spirits" to "set you free" and apologize for anything that you
might have done wrong.
5. Never take what doesn't belong to you from the Mountain - "Take nothing, leave nothing
but your footsteps"
