TelevisionBBC TWO programmed 7 weeks of films. Each week was a different genre, for example:Week 1 Thriller. Social Realism was week 3. The fact that a only 1 week was devoted to 1 genre suggests that BBC TWO wasn’t trying particularly hard to attract any type of specific audience. Therefore, there’s a possibility users of the social realism genre will come across this and watch some films. However, it’s more likely non-users will be watching these films.
Television: BBC FOUR BBC Four are permitted to show a variety of programmes, and premier 20 international films each year. This is unlike mainstream channels. Target Audience Research Research I collected demographic research by conducting a paper based questionnaire, and a discussion. The research was towards users and non-users of the social realism genre. I asked an even amount of: demographic segmentation, quantitative and qualitative questions (What area are you living in? What do you know already about the social realism genre? Do you find it easy to locate social realism films?). I also asked open questions and closed questions, for example: What do you study? and Why do you think independent films get less notice by the mainstream audience compared to Hollywood movies?, this lead to prolonged responses which i could then analyse.
This research tells me that the demographic which will consume my film is a mixture of users and non-usersof the social realism genre. I know that they are intellectual, and quite artistically minded, but are more usedto Hollywood films. However, they can appreciate different genres. They are interest in film, also.
