500 B.C.,[object Object], Some versions were also used to pump water for drinking water and for simple irrigation of agricultural land.,[object Object]

20th Century (USA),[object Object],In the 1930s one of the largest experimental machines, called the Palmer-Putman machine was first used.,[object Object]
20th Century (USA),[object Object],This was capable of producing 1.25 megawatts of electricity.,[object Object]
20th Century (USA),[object Object],However, due to the materials available at the time, its effectiveness was reduced to a great extent and made the machine hard to maintain. ,[object Object]

A nacelle, which typically contains a gear box, generator, brake, yaw motor, and yaw drive.,[object Object]
