2. Install wampserver Go to material folder. Install wampserver2.0i.exe on C:/ Install wampserver2-php529-2.exe on C:/ Latest releases can be found on wampserver.com/en Check first if Apache and PHP versions on WAMP install are compatible with your Drupal version. Go to drupal.com/requirements to read up.
3. Start wamp server. If you see a white half moon in your tray, wampserver is running. If there’s a red dot on it, or its any other colour, something’s wrong. Open Firefox browser and typelocalhost You should see a wamp loading screen. It should say php version as 5.3 Now, left click on wamp tray icon, go to php/version/9..2.0 Click icon again and restart all services. Go to wamp loading screen on localhost, it should say php version as 5.2.9
4. If u don’t have winrar. Install winrar from materials folder. Drupal installation is always given as a tarball. [tar.gz]. Drupal-615.tar.gz Extract it [right click, extract here] after copying it to C:/wamp/www/ Rename drupal-615 to mysite Check in localhost/mysiteif drupal installer shows up. Don’t do anything there for now.
6. In the create new database field, type mysite_db Keep type as collation and click create. You should get a message that mysite_db has been created.
7. Now, from the top tabs go to privileges You’ll see the list of available users. Click on add a new user Type username as mysite_user select host as localhost[from dropdown list – local]
8. Keep blank password. [or type a pass and remember it.] but for now, keep it blank. [select no password from dropdown list] On global privileges, click check all. Then click go.
9. To confirm if you’ve created the right user for the right database. Go to privileges and click the edit icon for the user name [last column] In database specific privileges, it should be mysite_db, ALL_PRIVILEGES and GRANT=YES. If Grant = no, click the edit privileges button, check grant and click go. Click go again to save.
10. Now go to localhost/mysiteon browser. If you see an error, function ereg() is depreciated, you havent changed php settings t0 5.2.9. Click install drupal in english.
11. You will see a requirements error. To fix this, go to wamp install directory from explorer. C:/Wamp/www/mysite/sites/default You’ll see default.settings.php. Copy it and rename the copy to settings.php and click try again. You must keep default.settings.php along with the new renamed copy.
12. Set database name to mysite_db Set username as mysite_user Open advanced options and make sure host is localhost. Click ok and go. If you have a problem here, make sure database settings are correct.
13. Give site name and other details asked for in this page. In site email address is the address drupal uses to send mail, keep it <somethin>@mysite.com Give admin user name as admin and pass as open for the remainder of this workshop. Remember this username and password. IT IS CALLED USER 1.
14. After the installation finish message, go to Locahost/mysite Congrats!! You’ve completed your first drupal installation.
15. Installing live. Buy web space with a provider who offers drupal support. One click installation with fantastico scripts. Use backup and migrate module to move from test site to live site.
