The Pilgrims fled England due to religious persecution and traveled on the Mayflower to establish the Plimoth Colony in present-day Massachusetts. Many Pilgrims died during the difficult two-month journey, but those who survived worked with the native Wampanoag man Squanto to build shelter and plant crops. In the following year, the Pilgrims celebrated a successful harvest with a Thanksgiving feast alongside their new Indian allies.
