Joseph Whiteside Boyle, also known as Klondike Joe Boyle, was born in Toronto in November. He took gold from Klondike fields using machines and made a hockey team called the Dawson City Nuggets. During World War I, he equipped a gun machine company of 50 men for the Canadian Army. As an engineer, he helped Russian trains run and improved food and ammunition supply flows. He safely transported Romania's crown jewels to Moscow and back. For his service, he received several military honors from Romania, Britain, Russia, and France. He died in London at age 56.
