Singapore served as as the President of the Council and this election showed the confidence member countries have in Singapore as well as Singapore's commitment to the UN, and this is beneficial for Singapore. 8. The UN has played a major role in managing international crises and resolving conflicts between countries and within countries. It has undertaken complex operations involving peacemaking, peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance. Peacekeeping is a good way to help countries torn by conflict to create conditions for long-term peace.
