What is the different between normal hydrostatics pressure and overburden pressure
1. What is the different between the Normal Hydrostatics Pressure and
Overburden Pressure?
The normal hydrostatics pressure refers to the pressure of fluid formations which
increase with depth, this call the normal hydrostatics pressure gradient.
Normal hydrostatics pressure differs in different places depends on the fluid density,
for example ,In the U.S. Rocky Mountains, a formation water gradient of 0.45 psi/ft
is common. In the U.S. Gulf Coast, a gradient of 0.465 psi/ft is common.
Overburden pressure is the pressure imposed on a layer of soil or rock by the weight
of the overlying materials.
