Name of country: INDONESIA
Derived from:
Indus (Latin) = India, and
Nesos (Greek) = Islands.
Who was made, did propose and publish?
1850, George Samuel Windsor Earl, an English ethnologist, proposed
the terms Indunesians — and, his preference, Malayunesians — for the
inhabitants of the "Indian Archipelago or Malayan Archipelago“
James Richardson Logan, Scottish, a student of Earl's, from Edinburgh
University, choosed “Indonusians” and modified to “Indonesian”
1900, Adolf Bastian, of the University of Berlin, popularized the name
through his book Indonesien oder die Inseln des Malayichen Archipels,
1884–1894.

- More than 500,000 years ago…. In the Pleistocene era…
“Indonesian’s” islands appears..
- Austronesian people migrated to South East Asia from Taiwan, then arrived in
Indonesia around 2000 BCE.
Pre-colonial civilisations:
- 200BC, Kingdom Dvipantara or Jawa Dwipa Hindu.
- 700’s-1000’s, Kingdom of Mataram,
- 600’s-1400’s, Srivijaya Empire (was ancient Malay Kingdom).
- 1222-1292, Kingdom of Singhasari.
- 1293-1500’s, Kingdom of Majapahit.
- 1500’s-1600’s, Kingdom of Mataram and Sultanate of Banten.
Colonial Era:
- 1512, Portuguese conquered Malacca, 1st
Europeans came and sought spices
trade to Indonesia.
- 1602-1942, Dutch sate rule.
- 1800’s, British captured some regions.
- 1942-1945, Japanese occupation.
Independence:
17 August 1945, Indonesia’s independent day.
