Evaluation Question 2
How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary texts
Zainab Oyenuga
Here are our final
products, including
our:
digi-pak and
poster advertisement
Iconography-
In order to enforce a sense of
continuity throughout our products
we maintained our use of
iconography which was presented in
our music video, into our digi-pak.
This way, our consumer would be
able to identify and distinguish our
products, as our icon was repetitive.
In addition our digi-pak and music
video effectively combined as they
shared similar elements. This is
illustrated in our use of black and
white colour scheme, not only in the
music video, but also in our digi-pak
and album poster photos, again
reinforcing our brand and making it
memorable. Nonetheless, our colour
scheme- black and white, and icon-
the heart necklace are symbols
reflecting the upsetting atmosphere
we were aiming to present, through
our products.
The appearance of our character in our music
video, completely contrast to our character
presented in our digi-pak. We glamorised our
protagonist for our digi-pak as a way to sell
the product to consumers. An element that
most music video products that synergise into
albums execute. Whilst the character
presented in our music video’s makeup
appears dark, particularly under the eyes,
and her hair appears greasy, giving her a
drained, exhausted and unpleasant look, this
contrasts to our character in the digi-pak. We
ensured that our character looked pleasant by
adding a touch of concealer under the eyes
and blusher, giving her a very natural look.
This way, our character did not look to
extreme and was still able to portray the
mysterious and dark emotions portrayed in
our music video. We mainly ensured there
was a sense of continuity by keeping the black
and white colour scheme the same, and using
the same character.
This picture demonstrates the elements we used in our music video, but avoided in our
digi-pak. For example, the character in our music video had chipped nail varnish,
reflecting her inferior class-range, whereas, it was vital for us to avoid this in our digi-
pak as it was aimed to sell to consumers, even though we did not hugely glamorise our
model, we ensured that she looked pleasant.
Our poster and digi-pak effectively combines
and correlates through our continuous use of
the colour scheme, including the hint of red
which we used so that there was a strong link
between both products. We specifically used
red because it symbolises pain which is not
exactly reflected in the pictures we took for
both these products. We also used the same
picture used for the front of our digi-pak for
our poster so that audiences and consumers
were again, able to distinguish our product as
this form of continuity reinforced the digi-
pak as a product, making it more noticeable.
Also, this picture also represented the music
video as it effectively emphasised our icon-the
necklace, indicating what sort of album and
music product we are selling as the heart
represents love and pain at the same time. We
also ensured that we only used red, black and
white as any other colours would potentially
destroy the emotions and feelings were trying
to portray.
